Summary:

What if Seward and Van Helsing told Mina about the danger Lucy was in sooner? What if Lucy wasn’t bitten a final time that night, because Mina was in the house? This gives them a reprieve. Everything changes for the better and for the worse. Each takes a more active role in their fate as they fight to keep Dracula away from Lucy, and the darkness closes in around them.

Yes, [personal profile] lost_spook. I guessed you may have written at least one (The Poison Tree) of the stories I received, but I didn’t guess that it was both of them. So thank you so much.

This story clocked in at a whopping 114 pages in Microsoft Word, for a grand total (no matter what Ao3 says—it might register the scene breaks) of 57,748 words. This is, by far, the longest thing I have ever written. The outline alone was 10 pages. I printed it, so I could have access to it at all times that I was away from the computer. I did not print the story, but I’m still genuinely amused that you did.*

I should have made it into separate chapters, but I didn’t even think of it at the time after all the edits were completed. Sorry about that. I do see in retrospect where a few chapter breaks could be, as one scene in particular was nearly 10,000 words.

I really must thank you, by the way, specifically for this post. The Picspam came in handy. So did the gif set in another post where you showed Seward fainting, and these promo shots in color. I might have used the fainting gifs for reference.

I can’t post the story to Livejournal, just like I couldn’t post it there last year, since it exceeds the word count limit. This year, I’m almost certain that I cannot post it to Dreamwidth, either, for that very reason. So…if someone ever feels the desire to comment on the story, you can do so in this post, or the cross-post on LJ, or just go to Ao3 by way of the link in this post if one happens to have an account there.

*Tomorrow or the next day, I plan another post about trivia from the writing process. I’ll try to make notes of all the random references sprinkled throughout the story that I alluded to in my author’s notes. There are a couple extra deleted moments that you can decide if you do or do not wish to see after they're described.

Edit: Or I could (and did) just post it today, since I gathered everything sooner than expected.

Written For: Valkyrierising
Rating: R
Fandom: Crimson Peak (2015)
Characters: Sir Thomas Sharpe, Lady Lucille Sharpe, Edith Cushing, Alan McMichael.
Word Count: 33,101
Author’s Notes: My recipient wanted a ghost hunt; so did Alan, even if things went a bit wrong for everyone. This is the end result of that, when Lucille wants revenge and Thomas just wants to keep everyone safe. For Lucille’s thoughts projected into a person during or prior to possession, it’s bold and italics. Regular thoughts are just italics. As this is too huge for Livejournal according to the error message, I'm only putting it on Dreamwidth, in addition to where it was on AO3.
Beta Readers: A huge thank you goes out to SeanDC and Calime.
Summary: Now that Allerdale Hall has collapsed into ruins, Lucille’s ghost is spurred into seeking revenge against Edith and Alan…but Thomas knows what his sister is planning and will provide them with aid no matter how dangerous things become. No matter how terrifying it becomes for the living, as souls are imperiled by the grasp of the dead.

The darkness seeped through his clothes, his hair, his eyes, his pores, and would not be dissuaded. He couldn’t scream unless she wished it, and right now, she didn’t. He thrashed and rolled over, clawing at something that was no longer there. It was spreading out slowly inside him, surging and submerging him in increments beneath the force. He wondered how much time he had left. He wondered if he could warn Edith. As Lucille oozed over his consciousness, he knew he couldn’t. )

Summary:

Two years after the events of the film, Alan and Edith are married. Now that Allerdale Hall has collapsed into the clay, Lucille’s ghost is free to seek revenge against them…but Thomas knows what his sister is planning and will provide them with aid no matter how dangerous things become.

No matter how terrifying it becomes for the living, as souls are imperiled by the grasp of the dead.

So this was the assignment where I went above and beyond what I ever expected to write. I am just beyond thrilled that my recipient enjoyed it. The commentary post on the writing process will come later, either today or tomorrow.

Quick question for my friends list—are there any Crimson Peak groups on Livejournal or Dreamwidth? I haven’t spotted any yet. I know there are at least two on Tumblr after a Google search, but I don’t use that.

Fandom: Fright Night (1985)
Characters: Charley Brewster, Billy Cole, Jerry Dandrige, Amy Peterson, Ed Thompson, Peter Vincent.
Word Count: 21,632
Author’s Notes: The prompt was this: “I'd love to see a story where Charlie doesn't save the day and ends up a vampire with Jerry. I'd prefer it if he was happy with the situation, either because they come to an understanding, or he goes completely vampire evil and enjoys it.” The title comes from a lyric in Come To Me, when it’s sung by Deborah Holland for Fright Night Part 2 (1988).
Beta Readers: A huge thanks to both [livejournal.com profile] persiflage_1 and [livejournal.com profile] seandc for beta reading
Summary: Charley and Peter don’t save the day, and Jerry offers Charley a choice. Charley takes him up on the offer to become a vampire, despite Peter’s warnings. While the change is painful, the bite is exquisite, and Charley comes to enjoy...well, everything, really.

You can see your friends again, Charley. You would have them back,” he whispered seductively into his ear. “Without fear. You would be safe. You wouldn’t need to fear the unknown, once it’s claimed you. )

This would be the fanfic I wrote for Yuletide. I’ll post something about the process of writing this long story either later today or tomorrow. Given the length of this fanfic, it’s probably too long to actually post the whole thing to Dreamwidth.

Author’s Notes: Written for [profile] qldfloodauction, for [profile] shengirl, and extremely late due to life, and a computer issue resulting in it eating each and every note and portion of fanfic I had written related to this. Word Count: 3540
Author’s Notes: This was written for the Walk Into A Bar Ficathon. My assignment was the Tenth Doctor meeting Winston Zeddemore. Thanks to [personal profile] seandc and [personal profile] persiflage_1 for beta reading. There’s a blink and you’ll miss it cameo from Louis Tully, as well as that mink coat monster thing. Because the Doctor did nothing and just stared at it, you may assume that a formerly expensive mink coat now resides in the wilds of New York City. Beta Readers: Huge thanks go out to [personal profile] persiflage_1 and [personal profile] seandc (also pulling muse duty) for beta reading.
Notes: This story came about thanks to a challenge from [profile] becky_writing--one of the prompts was the line “Wake up and French kiss the morning.” This was combined with a meme that got this prompt from [personal profile] frenchroast: “To save the world, the Doctor and Captain Jack must try to make...banana pudding!” It turned into a cracky fanfic rather than a world saving one, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.

Title: A Haunting We Will Go
Author: [personal profile] calliopes_pen
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Doctor Who
Word Count: 2206
Summary: The Master is haunting the TARDIS, and causing a bit of harmless mayhem for Martha, Jack, and the Doctor.
Beta Reader: Thanks to [personal profile] ausmac for beta reading.
Notes: This was requested by [personal profile] elliptic_eye, as a sequel to the drabble where the Doctor and Martha play with a ouija board, and get the Master by mistake. You can read that first drabble here, if you like. It’s not required to read that before this, but it helps. This story was originally just going to be about 600 words or so, but it kept growing, and growing, and growing...

And as a side note, the Doctor’s horrible dancing was inspired by a comment I read on one of the Who groups about David Tennant’s dancing style being very geeky. Oh, and if anyone has a better title for this story, let me know.

It had been a week since Jack had pulled his little astral body stunt... )

Here's a meme, taken from [personal profile] donutsweeper.

Give me two characters from different fandoms you know I'm familiar with, and I'll give you a dialogue happening between the two of them. Without justifying how the crossover would work, how their worlds clashed, or how they could even meet each other. Just a silly crossover conversation with no backstory, for fun.

Fandoms I'm familiar with include: Highlander, Torchwood, Doctor Who, Veronica Mars, Dark Shadows, Ghostbusters, Buffy, Angel, X-Men, Xena, Hercules, Smallville, Firefly, Sherlock Holmes, Heroes, Good Omens, and Batman. Only just started watching Life on Mars (I'm on episode 2, I think) but I'll throw that one in, too. Oh, and Stargate SG-1 up until the time they met the Ori, or whatever they were called.

ETA: Just remembered a few more I left out. Star Trek: TOS, and Star Trek: DS9.

In other news, that Dani Moonstar poll (in the previous post) will be closing around 5 PM today, so if you haven't already voted, please do. I think we're currently at a tie.
