Upgrade Complete

Yesterday evening, I installed Windows 7. Today, I am slowly reinstalling all of my programs. I like it so far, even if there's a bit of an issue with the Desktop portion at the moment.

Everything has become so tiny. (It was so big a few icons took up half the screen, but I fixed that--I just don't know how, and now everyone must squint.) I'll figure it out later. I have installed: IE, Google Chrome, Firefox, Avast, PC Tools Performance Toolkit, Adfender, Flash for Youtube, Java so a couple sites I use will work right, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I need to install a few more things.

I successfully installed Windows Office 2000, so my ancient Word works okay. It also automatically compensated during the installation, and decided to get rid of the black bars at the edges of the Toshiba television screen--so everything fits the screen now. I need to adjust to it.

And now, a comparison: When Dad accidentally wrecked the computer and had to reinstall everything long ago when I was in college, it took him 12 hours to get XP reinstalled. This doesn't account for the time it took him to reinstall programs, but he says that was the length when he first set it up, too. My installation of Windows 7? Approximately 35 minutes. Although, that may have something to do with not having installed over 100 Windows Updates for it. I'll get on that later. When I've researched which ones could mess something up.

I will eventually delete the windows.old folder, when I'm certain that I have all the right versions of particular programs reinstalled. In my old XP, we couldn't get programs to make icons on the Desktop. Windows 7 does it without any hiccups. It also seems to be successful in creating System Restore points without my direct intervention every morning. XP couldn't (at least not on mine, no matter what was done).
