A Well Discovered
People on my friends list might remember a few months or a year or so ago that I mentioned a really bad thunderstorm hit, and knocked down a tree at my grandmother’s old house, barely missing hitting the roof. Well, after everything Dad eventually removed the tree stump.
Then, yesterday afternoon, he went over there to check on things, and thought he saw a sinkhole next to where the stump had been. He moved dirt and other junk out of the way, and found a hole. Turns out to be a well. As far as he can tell, nobody knew it was there. Dad took pictures, if anyone cares...he also made sure nobody had any missing pets before trying to fill it in with dirt. Heh.
This is what he saw near the toolshed. Look down in the grassy area in front of the door. The dark spot is the hole. I think this is a few feet away from the area the tree used to be. The fact that the roots didn’t have anything to hold onto on that side--from the well--is part of why it fell.
A closer look so you can see the hole in the ground.
Starting to clear stuff away from the hole, with a look down inside it.
This is how big the hole/well is once everything is cleared away. It eventually ended up being 5 feet wide, and 20 feet deep.
A final look into the well, once a little more was cleared out.

yuletide related news, I’ve finished a general outline of the story I’m going to write. As it stands now, it is going to be frighteningly dark and twisted and not my usual style--then again, it’s supposed to be like that.
