Arthur C. Clarke, author of such novels as 2001: A Space Odyssey, has passed away at the age of 90. May he rest in peace.
On the Doctor Who side of things,magicallaw is hosting a Classic Doctor Who Friending Meme, for those who want to participate.
And for local news it looks like quite a few areas are flooding. So far, we shouldn’t be getting the horrible amounts of rain (we're at 2-4 inches) that Illinois is--at least, as far as I’m aware of. In Anna, Illinois, for example, the animal shelter flooded. They got all the small dogs out, and then had to wade through the water to get back inside and save the larger dogs. Someone from the local news station was down there when it all happened, and let them use her truck for a few dogs. It reportedly took 3 hours to get the larger dogs out.
I also heard that Southern Illinois University has lost power, and the students were sent home. Meanwhile, there’s another school where the students are stranded, and parents couldn’t get to the school—I don’t know which one—last I heard (around noon) they planned on serving them dinner and finding cots for everyone.
There are also tornado warnings in some areas of Missouri and flooding in various other areas, so everyone on my friends list that is in the affected areas, please try to stay safe.
