Fandom Meme
Comment to this entry and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:
1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?
lizamanynames gave me Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, X-Men.
persiflage_1 gave me Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Doctor Who
1. After my friends list did a bit of squeeing at seeing it on the Sci-Fi Channel, I managed to catch an episode. The Unquiet Dead. I liked it.
2. I think I’ll probably stay in this fandom.
3. There are a ton of novels out there in this fandom, and I’ve only found a tiny amount.
4. I think this is probably the fandom I’ve written the most fanfic in.
5. Yes, if they are prepared to give in to the urge to track down novels that are impossible to find, and Old Who episodes.
Ghostbusters
1. I watched this movie when I was 3, and loved it. Dad edited out the scariest bits so I wouldn’t have nightmares, and I finally saw it uncut during a brief time we had HBO when I was 10.
2. Been obsessed with this movie since I was 3 years old, so I think it’s pretty much a hopeless case. I’m staying.
3. Loved the scarier episodes of season 1 of Real Ghostbusters, loved both movies.
4. The occasional discussion when there is one.
5. Yes.
X-Men
1. I found a comic when I was 2 or 3—it was the issue where the X-Men were on the Brood World, and Kitty found Lockheed for the first time. Been hooked ever since.
2. I’m here to stay, despite going in and out of the fandom at intervals over the years.
3. For storylines: The Dark Phoenix Saga, Mutant Massacre, The Fall of the Mutants, and Inferno. Liked the first two movies.
4. RPG’s and discussions.
5. Only if they like the concept.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
1. I think I tried to watch the first episode when it first aired and didn’t care for it. Later that year, I bought season 1 on VHS for some strange reason, and made it as far as The Pack before giving up. I think the set melted in the garage. Eventually, season 3 rolled around, and I caught Dead Man’s Party—loved it, so I stuck around. I didn’t care for Buffy—I liked Willow more.
2. I’ve moved on, except for the occasional discussion.
3. Quite a few episodes in various seasons were my favorites—maybe The Gift, and Once More, With Feeling.
4. The occasional discussion. However, before the interest died, I was in a few RPG’s, and writing a little bit of fanfic—along with writing essays for
ship_manifesto and
idol_reflection.
5. Yes, if they’re prepared for some bad bits in season 6 and 7.
Oh, and for those that are interested,
whedonesque links to the Wizard Magazine article I mentioned the other day. What they consider the 25 best science fiction shows. The
whedonesque discussion is here, and the article is here. It doesn’t include their list (found in the sidebar on the magazine) of their least favorite science fiction shows of all time, though. That included Farscape.
