Fandom Meme, Part 2
Comment to this entry and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:
1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?
unovis_lj gave me Firefly, Doctor Who, Highlander.
I’ve already done the questions and answers for Doctor Who in a previous post.
Firefly
1. Some people on my friends list were going wild over the fact that a movie was coming out. Eventually, someone convinced me that it would be worth buying the DVD set, and I did. From there, I watched the entire series probably a month or so before Serenity came out.
2. I seem to have moved on.
3. Loved the movie, and most of the episodes.
4. It’s been a while, but not anymore. I did have at least one group for writing fanfic from the show—with someone picking a character, and me (as mod) giving questions for them to answer in fanfic form. That group’s been dead a while. Before my interest finally died, I also wrote a
ship_manifesto essay for Wash/Zoe, and I wrote a few fanfics.
5. They could at least give the series a shot.
Highlander
1. This is complicated for an introduction. Okay, back in the mid-90’s, there was a show on the Sci-Fi Channel that was called Sci-Fi Buzz. They talked about interesting shows in science fiction each week. One week, they mentioned Highlander, and all I heard was something about a demon being fought, so naturally I watched. The first episode I saw on USA Network was Archangel, and I loved it. So going in I already knew Richie was dead, and never got attached.
From there, I didn’t know that USA Network did Highlander marathons before each new season, so I went off to Suncoast Video and bought Counterfeit, parts one and 2, and I think Unholy Alliance. Because of Counterfeit, I assumed Tessa was evil, so by the time I got to see early seasons I was ready to not like her all that much. Shortly before season 6 began, I got to see the rest of the series in a marathon.
While I loved Archangel, I hated the way they wrapped it up in season 6. And for some random trivia, I only watched it once, and I could quote line by line everything that Ahriman said. Didn’t see that episode again for years—probably until it reaired on the Sci-Fi Channel.
2. Oh, definitely. I might drift in and out, but I always come back to it. Oh, and just a sidenote—I never liked any of the movies. Just the series.
3. Indiscretions. Something Wicked and Deliverance. Comes a Horseman and Revelations 6:8. ‘Til Death. Those were the first to come to mind, but there are quite a few others. I never really cared for the novels that came out—they didn’t have enough Methos in them.
4. Discussions, mostly. I still read fanfic in it. This fandom is actually where I discovered the concept of fanfic. The first one I ever read was Archangel Redeemed, which I linked to over at
crack_van at one point. There’s only one Highlander story that I’ve ever started writing, and it’s currently dead mid-way through.
5. If they’re exposed to the Methos episodes first, then yes.
