The Holiday Wish List Meme
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or
wish_list or
holiday_wishes or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
Post this wish list any time after November 1st. Then repost it two weeks before Christmas.
I know there’s a high probability that I won’t receive anything on this list, but hey—it’s really just tradition to post it. However, if you believe you can fill anything on this list, either comment, or send me a PM if it’s regarding a better copy of a movie.
1. LJ tokens. For the purpose of the second point on this list—or just in case I ever need them for anything else, I’ll have access to them.
2. Paid time and/or extra icons for the only character I currently play. I think the 30 icons run out soon.
3. Book recommendations: A good, comprehensive book that has capsule reviews of horror and/or science fiction movies. Or just obscure movies. The one I currently use (Creature Features, by John Stanley) was published around 1999, so I need to find a good, comprehensive one that’s a bit more recent than that. Before this one falls apart. Videohound hasn’t published one exclusively for this purpose in the last decade.
4. New icon with my username in it, preferably from a fandom I enjoy. I can’t think of anything specific, surprise me.
5. If it were at all possible, a way to code my current LJ layout in S1 so that it can be transferred over to Dreamwidth. I don’t believe it is, since they use S2, and not the styles I use. So that’s just random, wishful thinking on my part.
6. That in the next year, nothing else happens to the DNS servers that I use. Oh, and recommendations for other good free ones, outside of Google Public DNS--just in case I ever need another one to fall back on.
7. Icons from My Best Friend Is A Vampire. Preferably of the characters of Professor Leopold McCarthy (David Warner) or Modoc (Rene Auberjonois).
8. Icons from Fright Night, preferably of Peter Vincent. I’m talking about the 1985 version, not the remake with David Tennant. This means the Roddy McDowell version of the character. If you know of any good ones, link away. I kept following links that led to purged journals when I went searching.
9. A great transfer of Fright Night Part 2 to be released on DVD. Or if anyone knows of a copy floating around online where you can actually see what’s going on, please let me know. The one copy I found was too dark, except at the climax, and one quick bit at the beginning. Otherwise, it was more like shadows wandering around.
10. New header in a fandom (Dark Shadows, Merlin, Doctor Who) I enjoy, something that goes along the lines of my current layout, in regards to color. I’ve had this Tara one for going on 6 years I’d say, and it’s time for a change.
11. A future release of Ghostbusters II to actually include the deleted scenes of Ray, under the influence of Vigo, trying to crash Ecto-1. This is mostly a random wish.
12. DVD Delirium, Volume 1: Redux. The one bookstore in the area cannot even find it listed on their computer. It’s probably out of print. If I’ve heard right, it could fit the sort of book I’m looking for in #3. Even if it’s just listing the more obscure horror movies that have been released to DVD.
ETA: Thank you for the gift of 500 tokens,
stormkpr.
