Rest In Peace, Denise Nickerson And Freddie Jones

Denise Nickerson has passed away, at the age of 62, after being removed from life support. May she rest in peace. I had been following the news of her stroke and accompanying issues via Vampires.com since shortly after they began discussing her declining health.

A lot of people remember her fondly for her role as Violet Beauregarde in Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory. I was never a fan of that, and preferred her roles as Amy Jennings, Amy Collins (the parallel time version of Amy Jennings), and Nora Collins on the original Dark Shadows.

Freddie Jones has passed away as well, at the age of 91, following a short illness. May he rest in peace. I didn’t think I had heard of him before, until I started reading his IMDB filmography. He was in the Granada Sherlock Holmes series—in particular, the episodes of The Last Vampyre and Wisteria Lodge. He was in the film Young Sherlock Holmes, as Chester Craigwitch; he was Professor Julian Keeley in The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1973); and he was Ynyr, The Old One, in Krull (1983).

I also spotted that he was in three episodes of Mystery And Imagination back in the 60’s. Two of them have been lost to time; the third, Sweeney Todd, I have on my external hard drive thanks to thisbluespirit. I had not yet gotten around to watching it, so I’ll be doing that later.

Someone posted a picture-set of Freddie Jones: I wouldn't've known of all of his roles, but it was interesting to see that he was The Guy With The Eyebrows in "Dune". I didn't know of the Sherlock Holmes connection, but it stands to reason.

I remember Denise Nickerson from Dark Shadows. It’s sad that she passed away. I had no idea that she was the same age as I am.

Oh goodness, Freddie Jones. I loved him in everything I saw him in, but most of all I loved him in the mid-90s adaptation of Cold Comfort Farm, as Adam. "That weren't I! May I never set hand to plow again if it were! That were Urk!"

I'm very sad about Freddie Jones. I know him best from The Satanic Rites of Dracula, but I also have his Mystery and Imagination Sweeney Todd, and it is the best adaptation of that story I have ever seen. I won't spoil it for you, because a lot of the pleasure is in what it slowly reveals a it goes along. But go forth and enjoy!

I had kind of thought Freddie Jones must already be dead! Whoops. /o\ He was in a lot of things, though, and always very good indeed.

I haven't watched that Sweeney Todd either (because I Don't Do Sweeney Todd) but I have gathered that it is supposed to be the highlight of the set from general reviews and people who have seen it, so I hope you enjoy it!
