Rest In Peace, Ben Cross

Ben Cross has passed away, at the age of 72, following a short illness. May he rest in peace.

I’ll always remember him best as Barnabas Collins, from the short-lived 1991 remake of Dark Shadows. I have it on DVD, so I may be rewatching a few episodes later. I also recall him as Prince Malagant in First Knight (1995).

I was not aware he was in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek (2009) as Sarek. I do need to track down a vampire movie he was in, called Nightlife (1989). The summary I read said he played a vampire named Vlad, tracking down his lost love...by the name of Angelique. Naturally, given I’m a Dark Shadows fan, I sort of need to see this no matter how bad it is.

I only ever saw him in Chariots of Fire (1981) and the Star Trek reboot, but I am still sorry. His memory for a blessing.

I saw him in so many things. Dark Shadows, Chariots of Fire, Star Trek, The Far Pavillions, The Flame Trees of Thika,The Citadel...and according to IMBD - he has several films in post-production.

Oh, I remember Nightlife and it was the hilarious kind of bad.

I have seen a lot of Ben Cross' films - including Nightlife. He didn't really phone anything in, not even the worst of the films. I'm sorry he's gone. Let me know if you find a good, legit source on Nightlife, I kind of want to rewatch it. Though I do remember a fairly stereotypical Latina maid, if I remember correctly. Maybe we'll get lucky and there will be some redeeming qualities to her characterization?

RIP Ben Cross. I have the dvd copy of the remake series as well as the complete dvd set of the original series. He was a wonderful actor.
