Usually, if it's a character from the Angelverse, I watch an episode from a season close to where I would be playing the character. (Angel is shown twice a day on TNT, Buffy twice a day on FX. After a certain point, the relevant episode will be shown.)

When I watch the episode, I watch every little thing that the character does, how they react. Little things they do. A good example of that is the RPG where I play Season 1 Lilah. She wasn't quite as redeemable at that point, but she was seriously competitive towards Lindsey.

If I'm stuck on something, I just take a break for a few minutes.
