At the time, I liked both Buffy and Star Trek, and it was the only name I could think of that combined them. (Star Trek interest has faded a little at the moment.)

1. I don't know. Possibly through Firefly or JLI or Bats.
Maybe through something Sherlockian or JTR-related.

Hmmm. Have you ever read Patricia Cornwell's JTR:Case Closed? And if so, what did you think?

I read part of it, and just couldn't finish. It seemed like at one point she was focusing on the prositute's habits. I didn't want to know a lot of that, I just wanted to know about Jack the Ripper's mind--the psychology of everything. (That part is fascinating to me. If she got that far in the book, I never knew.)

She eventually did,but she took her sweet time about it, yes!

There are some very interesting things in there about the guy's childhood, physical/mental deformity, and screwed up psyche.
