Anemia, And More

Yesterday, I went to the doctor for another blood test. Three months ago, the iron level was 10.3. (Back in early 2003, it was 2.0--I'll always be happy as long as it never gets that low again!) The iron level is supposed to be around 12-14. That's slightly anemic, so I had to start taking two iron pills and a multivitamin a day--rather than just a multivitamin.

The doctor just called with my results, and as of now it's at 12.6. So I am not anemic right now. Still taking the iron pills, though.

And apparently, my HCM (no idea what that stands for) level last time was 36.8, and is supposed to be between 34-44.

As of now, it's 39.7. Much better.

In completely unrelated news, I still need a beta reader for the [community profile] ship_manifesto essay.

I'm anemic, but have never bothered to take my tablets. Is it bad then? Maybe I should go docs. :)

Hmmm, I'd best go see if I'm still anemic, if so it'll be decades so I'd call that a continuing problem. :D My auntie was anemic in the good ol' days, they made her eat raw liver. Yuk.

it's your hematacrit level, and it measures the percentage of red blood cells per blood volume.

Good to hear it's improved! :)

It's good when health problems work their way out of being problems.

I love your icon. Kaylee is the best <3.

Glad you're doing better. I remember your TrekBBS thread about almost dying a few years ago. *eek* Don't let that happen again!

I was confused when you mentioned this before, because I remember the HCM number, which is what they measure when you give blood. You need to be 36. I think? or 37. Sometimes I'm low. Once I was 32. The next time I went (less than 2 months later) I had been on Atkins, but I insisted they spin it (which is more work, but how they get the exact number), and it turned out I was 40. She was mad at me!
