Computer Problem

Every so often, my computer restarts for no reason at all. It's very odd, and annoying. Does anyone know what could be causing it? I've all ready checked for viruses, and it's not that.

Unless I'm mistaken (which is highly likely), that sounds like what that worm does. My husband's been fixing people's computers for that problem.

Hope it's not that.

Oh, in that case it may not be a worm, but a wrong setting in your BIOS. You need to check your 'Energy Saver' settings in Windows and your 'Wake on' settings.

There's a new worm out with that trait that just walks past virus scanners. It's called the Sasser Worm, and Microsoft just issued a patch for it a week or so ago. Go to http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ This is McAfee's stand-alone virus scanner. It does not install itself, so if you have a virus, the virus won't de-activate it. Just download the file to your computer (the desktop it the easiest place to put it) and double click on it to run it. Click on 'Options,' and tell it to scan all files and boot records just to be safe.
