When Good Puppets Go Bad

You know things have gone too far into the realms of weirdness when people decide to get politically correct (or whatever this is) for Sesame Street--the exact bit of oddness? The early DVD’s of Sesame Street are not considered appropriate for children, and are being marketed as adults only. Why? Because Cookie Monster once held a pipe, and Oscar the Grouch is apparently an undiagnosed depressed person. Yes, really.

You can read most of the stuff over at [profile] metro_weird, here. Fox News and CNN also mentioned the story.

I wonder if they’ll go after Eeyore for being too sad next...

Sidenote: Mom said this stupidity makes her want to run out and buy the DVD’s. *laughs*

And now, a couple questions for my friends list. Is Life on Mars worth watching? I found it for download somewhere--I won’t say where--and just wanted to know if it would be worth downloading at all. I mostly wondered because BBC America has been advertising that the final season starts soon, and I know they tend to chop things to pieces.

The second question is this: Does anyone know of any groups that are hosting Rose drabbles? I found the Martha drabble contest over at [profile] lifeonmartha a while back, and wondered if there was one for Rose. Just so I can practice and get Rose’s voice right for the fanfic I’m writing for the OT3 ficathon.

[livejournal.com profile] rose_lives did a drabble tag a few months back - me and [livejournal.com profile] scarlettgirl were talking about asking [livejournal.com profile] livii to run another one on that comm once the LoM one finishes.

This reminds me of the time Hungry Hungry Hippo got discontinued because they had an eating disorder.

Sorry, I guess I forgot the smilie.. that was intended to be a joke. ;) (Though it does remind me I haven't seen a commercial for that in forever)

Definite YES to Life on Mars. It's good stuff.

Seconding the YES vote for Life on Mars! I loved it.

*wants to buy Sesame Street as well*

I can't find it on UK Amazon, I can only find an unrated version of the US one :(

I've never seen 'Life on Mars', heard good things about it though.

Eeyore is obviously bipolar. Just look at the birthday balloon/jar incident.

Well, gee, does that mean all of us who grew up watching them are all horribly psychologically damaged now? *makes plans to acquire said DVDs to inflict selfsame pain on future children I may drunkenly decide to have* I'm actually surprised they didn't do the same to DVDs of The Muppet Show, which was, now that I think about it, gleefully subversive a lot of the time :D

...and watch the awesomeness of Life on Mars, yes. :D

See, I find the Oscar the Grouch thing offensive. Not everyone who is pessimistic and grumpy has depression. By their own standards, that is an offensive prejudice against Oscar. Unless the ratings board REALLY believes that everyone needs to go on Zoloft and be happy all the time. At which point Fred frickin' Rogers needs to be censured as well.

This. Because I'm happy in my grumpiness. This is not depression. ...Idiots.

I am so irked by this article that I can't even articulate my feelings well enough.

I actually own the first volume of Old School Sesame and I'm looking forward to sharing my Sesame Street with my 20 month old son. I'm a horrible, awful mom. Yep, that's me.
