RIP Harvey Korman

Harvey Korman has died at the age of 81, due to complications from the rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. May he rest in peace. He was famous for The Carol Burnett Show, which I’ve only seen a couple of episodes of—probably on TV Land. I mostly knew him from roles in movies like Dracula: Dead And Loving It, Radioland Murders, and the 1985 version of Alice in Wonderland, where he played the White King.

In other news, I ran a scan with McAfee yesterday evening, and it found 26 problems. One was Adware. The other 25 were Trojans. Turns out they were all one called Vundo. According to a Google search, Vundo causes uncontrollable pop-ups. Basically, once it gets in with a piece of Adware, it leaves something in your computer open for more and more Vundo to get through. The odd .dll files I mentioned yesterday were part of it—it inserts those into certain folders. Here’s the Wikipedia entry for it, and here’s the Symantec page about it. We’re still getting pop-ups, so it’s probably still hiding somewhere in there, and I’m running a few more scans.

I read in the Wikipedia entry that it can get in through an infected ad that uses Java. Does Fanfiction.net use that anywhere? If so, I may have been right about it being their site that originally caused this.

At least you have some idea what is causing all the problems now. That's a step in the right direction. Could you have followed a bad link recently?

That's what I've been wondering. I don't think anyone's e-mailed me anything that was bad, so I'm really not sure. Dad can't think of anything either, and we're the only two that use it.

Ugh, its annoying isnt it? I feel your pain. Last night I spent 2 hours going through everything because of this website I go to sometimes for fansubs. What I usually do is I go through the main folders, like windows, system32, the local folder in my documents and I delete anything modified on the date it all started, and like you said the virus scans, and adaware, and I even tried windows defender. Stupid people, dont they have anything better to do then make these things?

I'm glad you're getting rid of everything though!

I had Vundo on my computer last year. I used the following free programs to totally get rid of it - ComboFix, VundoFix and Super Anti-spyware. It took all three to root it out completely. Norton didn't even touch it.

Nooo. Not another classic dying. I loved him on Mama's Family, where he played Carol Burnett's character Eunice's husband Ed. Which makes sense as Mama's Family was a spin-off of her show.
