Link Round-Up
Over at
dw_news, it was announced that they are bringing back Basic Accounts.
ETA: As
newnumber6 has pointed out, while they are bringing back Basic Accounts, those accounts have ads--a bait and switch.
Also, as a couple of people on my friends list have been hit by this already, I thought I would help spread the word. Apparently, spam/bot journals are popping up and commenting many, many times to old posts. The comments left behind are, reportedly, odd and/or gibberish. You can read more about it over in this post in
liz_marcs’ journal—she also provides the names of the known spammers so far, so that you can ban them before they mess with you.
And, lastly, Caroline Dhavernas is currently in the lead with three votes for the Nocturne PB poll. I plan on closing the poll either Sunday or Monday, for those that haven’t voted yet. If you haven’t voted, and wish to, please make your way over here, where you can also find altered images of the three choices.

That got me excited for a minute, until I looked more deeply into it and found it's a bait and switch (http://community.livejournal.com/lj_2008/4376.html). They're bringing back basic accounts! But making basic users have ads!
...
Strikes me as like a bank putting out an announcement that they were eliminating all ATM service fees and then hiding somewhere in there that they're deducting a new charge to every account monthly that is more than most people spend on the service fees. I'd prefer companies tell me they're going to screw me to my face, rather than doing it backhanded and try to tell me they're doing me a favour.

That's definitely stupidity on their part, since a lot of people loved the regular, non-ad basic accounts.

I've been experiencing those spammers. They haven't been bad enough that I've noticed recurring names or 've been moved to learn how to ban.
