RIP, Estelle Getty

Estelle Getty, best known as Sophia Petrillo on The Golden Girls, passed away today after a long struggle with dementia. She was 84 years old. May she rest in peace. bestweekever has a tribute to her over here, if anyone is interested.

That's sad. :( I adored The Golden Girls. She was a fabulous actress!

That's so sad. In high school, the group of four girls I ate with at lunch all had Golden Girl names. I was Sophia (gee, there's a shocker). My friend Susan was Rose, and two more filled the spots. Didn't know them very much. Used to pass notes to Susan and we'd sign them with Rose and Sophia, or for me, I'd add Little Italy. Because Estelle and I are both extremely short.
