RIP, Isaac Hayes

Isaac Hayes—best known for his role in Shaft—has died at at the age of 65. He was found next to his still-running treadmill and rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to CNN. May he rest in peace.

I’m not old enough to have seen him in Shaft--the only things I’ve ever seen him in (after checking IMDB) were Stargate SG-1, and Robin Hood: Men In Tights, but from what I saw of him, he was a good actor.

It’s just not a good week for actors, is it? First Bernie Mac, and now him.

Aww. I've seen him in Shaft (they do repeat old movies on TV :P ), and he's also in Samuel Jackson's Shaft, playing Samuel's uncle, the original John Shaft.

But I knew him better as the voice of Chef in South Park.

No, actually, the actor who played the original Shaft is Richard Roundtree. {He's still alive.} Isaac Hayes wrote the Theme Song from Shaft --- he was so talented (and as Chef, he'd sometimes sing to the children -- usually about sex -- so you might have heard him sing if you watched South Park).

He was a very, very talented musician. Listen to the Theme from Shaft sometimes through earphones. It's brilliant. It was one of the first things I remember ever hearing that truly blended symphonic music with a rhythm & blues beat (which, now that I think of it, probably makes it the forerunner of disco but it was so much better than that!) He hasn't done anything musically for years, but with a legacy like what he'd already done he didn't need to. [And he was a hoot at Chef on South Park, too.]

You're right. And they say deaths come in threes, so they'll probably be one more.
