There Goes The Power
Okay, the tornado and stuff didn't hit as of 5 PM--however, extremely high winds of 50 mph did. As of 9:45 AM this morning, the power has been out. I'm typing this from over at my grandmother's old house, on dial-up, and an extremely slow computer.
The reason the power went out? Down the street, a tree fell--from what I saw, it's 30-40 feet across, about the size of a small house. It took out two or three power lines, as well as a privacy fence. So since it might be a couple of days to get things straightened out, I won't be online for a few days.
Downtown, windows shattered because of the force of the wind. A transformer exploded, too, shortly before the power went out.
Oh, and Sean? Remember I said a section of a tree fell across the street? Turns out it took out our mailbox. The good news is that the upper half was apparently detachable, so Dad fixed it, once he finished sawing through the branch, and dragging pieces away (during the insane wind, as limbs fell around him).
Oh, and according to the news, a semi was blown off the road, and flipped over sideways. Everyone in the region is without power.

Take care, stay safe and it's good to here you made it through relatively unscathed.

Good to know that you're ok and all and no need to worry, but yikes, and I repeat what I said in email (which you mightn't have seen with computer slowness, yahoo was always slow for me, so that's why I'm commenting instead of emailling), as beautiful as the current trees may be, you all need to get some new, not-throwing-limbs-everywhere trees there!
On the good side, at least none of these actually hit your house. :) Well, apart from the letterbox... time for a brick letterbox! Just watch out for spiders... and swarming bees like that time a few years ago...
So how will you find out when power's back on at your place? Maybe the size of this tree means they know this damage needs more quicker attention? (yeah, yeah, I live in a fantasyland...)
Anyway, hope you're home soon :) *hugs*

According to the local news, every county around us is pretty much a disaster area, and they've declared a state of emergency everywhere--except here.
They also say that that wind wasn't normal wind--it classified as a tropical storm, despite us not being anywhere near the ocean. Nobody's quite sure how that works.
Neighbors promised to call when the power came back, since they're pretty much stuck in the dark until things work again. Dad actually brought almost everything we had at home over here: Pillows, blankets, nail clippers, cups, medicine, clothes for three days, notepads, trash cans--you name it, he probaby stuck everything in that giant van of his to bring here. Except for the cat--Dad goes home every few hours to talk to her and make sure she's okay.
And you're right. I'm pretty much only using the internet to post this, since it takes way too long to get anywhere else. You have to keep clicking connect for it to go anywhere, and then it takes 15 minutes.
