According to what I'm reading of the outline now--written before I saw season 2 of Torchwood, or season 4 of Doctor Who--Martha's first death would have been via gigantic wasp creature. It was going to either be that, or a bunch of Weevils killing her.

The wasp seemed more likely, and after the episode of Who in season 4 (The Unicorn and the Wasp, I think was the title) I would actually have a name for the thing.
