First Episode Of Merlin

I wasn't going to post this behind a cut, because there isn't really anything here that could be considered a spoiler. However, there's a mention of a character moment or two, so I decided I will.

-Merlin looks strangely like a young Peter Wingfield--possibly mixed in with James Marsden in a certain light. He seems like a good actor--especially going by the fact that the only other time I've seen him before was in the Doctor Who episode "Midnight."

-I think I might watch a couple more episodes, since I'm not entirely sure that I like the show or not. I know I like Merlin, Guinevere, and the older guy that is Merlin's friend--no idea what his (or the actor's) name is, but he's strangely familiar. If Anthony Stewart Head gets more to do, then I'll probably like his character.

-Every time there was a mention of destiny, I felt like I was watching an episode of Smallville. Of course, Merlin seems more interesting to me.

-The evil witch--I kept waiting for her to scream "I'll swallow your soul!" whenever they showed her true self. She looked like the evil demons in Army of Darkness.

-For once, I actually liked Eve Myles' character, even if it was just someone disguised as her. I take it the evil witch is permanently dead?

The character's Gaius, the actor's Richard Wilson - he was the lead in a hugely famous sitcom in Britain but you probably recognise him from Doctor Who (he's the doctor in The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. And Guinevere is Reinette's friend in The Girl in the Fireplace. And Merlin is the kid from Midnight... everyone in this has been in Doctor Who, basically.)

Yes - they're walking in the garden talking about the Queen's mistress being ill.

Just butting in, was it "One Foot in the Grave". I remember because Eric Idle sang the theme song. They played the whole series here on PBS, well where I lived anyway.

Butting out...

That's the one! It's one of those things where pretty much everybody in Britain would at least know the title character and catchphrase ("I don't believe it!") even if they've never really watched it.

If you need another, let me know. I probably watch it someday but right now just not into medieval legends and the like.
