Ice, Ice, Everywhere...

According to the local news, there’s one street a few miles from here, where the ice is so bad that there have been ten wrecks--just as of this morning. One guy even said that with one car, he was able to just push it out of a ditch, and turn it around on the ice with barely any force. Because the ice is so slick, that you can barely touch a car, and it will move.

The snow plows went by a few minutes ago, and I think when they’re done with that, they’re supposed to try to salt the roads. Except for some back roads, where they have to get out and walk and spread salt that way, rather than drive, because they can’t get over the ice.

In Doctor Who related news, David Tennant is apparently already up and walking (to the post office and back, apparently) after the back surgery. Huh. I always thought it took months to get over that, plus physical therapy.

And now, a meme taken from [personal profile] senmut:
Ask me one question, fandom or otherwise, and I will try to answer it the best I can.

In other news, looks like Naoko Mori's winning the poll in my previous post.

Common misperception about that back surgery. Modern microsurgery techniques have the patient walking around basically as soon as the anaesthetic wears off. People I know who've had similar surgery have said that they were told the very best thing to do afterwards is to stay active, not sit around.

Yes definitely not the kind that leaves you laid up for months (despite tabloid headlines about "BACK SURGERY AGONY!" Plus, the fact the RSC listed him as unlikely to return before Christmas, which means there's a possibility he'll return after. (Fingers crossed.)

And while we don't have snow, it is, believe it or not, actually colder here in Los Angeles at this moment than it is in London, with the wind and the rain.

Ask me one question, fandom or otherwise, and I will try to answer it the best I can.

Why is the sky blue? ::evil grin::

There is apparently the slight possibilty of snow. Clearly the end of the world is upon us.

Given that, I'll take the alien explanation. ;)

Everyone's speculating about Doctor 11.0. How about Jenny 2.0? (I presume you've seen episode 4x06).

Ten wrecks?! That's scary.

I am such a weenie. We don't get a true winter where I am. Nevertheless, last night (actually, it was early this morning), I was unable to drive up my driveway due to --- you guessed it --- ice! I felt like an Arctic explorer.

Re: surgery, I think they pretty much try to get people up and at it after surgery these days, even surgeries on things like backs and hips and knees. I know a 60+ year old woman who's had hip and knee surgery now and both times she's walking within a few days.
