Fannish Items Of Interest

Looks like they’re going to be trying to tone down and censor Torchwood. Personally, I think it was fine the way it was.

I tracked down the Morrissey and Tennant dancing scene from Blackpool, via Youtube. I just wanted to see if it would make me want to track down the rest of the series--the answer is: for me, it doesn’t. I think I had expected them to actually sing, rather than do a weird little tango and lip synch the words (I think I heard Tennant say something from the song once in there--possibly) while the actual music played.

This morning, I watched Gremlins 2: The New Batch--I knew that somewhere in there was John Glover, but I couldn’t find him. Toward the end, I finally realized that the upbeat, almost blonde guy with no beard or mustache (and very short hair) was him. Strangely, I finally recognized him when he looked disturbed after sticking a gremlin in the shredder.

And now, a meme, taken from [profile] ithildyn:

If you could force me to write anything, what would it be?

And, as a sidenote: I do believe I’ve gotten more comments on the [community profile] yuletide fanfic I wrote this year, than in the year before last. I hit 20 comments as of a moment ago, whereas with the other story in 2006, it was only 2.

Noooooo! They don't need to censor it. It's fine the way it is. *clings*

Interesting about Torchwood - I'm confused. I've been watching the British and BBCA versions of the show. I know that BBCA is editing for time but it doesn't look like they've been editing content.

What I heard a while back was that the BBC was moving Torchwood into a "family" timeslot in England. When I heard that, I thought it might mean censoring. But then again, what the Brits censor and what the US censors are entirely different things.

It would *suck mightily* if they censored Torchwood for American networks.

In between LJ crashing, I read some more meta. They're moving the show from BBC2 to BBC1 - there were questions about whether that would lighten up the show a lot. The producers/station insist that they don't want to change the dark nature of Torchwood.

However, instead of doing a 13 episode season, they're doing a 5 episode arc that will air over 5 days. From the station pov, it's a big deal to give over an entire week in one shot. From a fan pov, it of course, sucks.

I think that any cleaning up of the show will have to do with no room for a lot of character extras in the limited schedule. Although I did also read that they plan to continue to follow Gwen and Rhys' marriage and Jack and Ianto's relationship.

Not quite true; I recently saw Voyage of the Damned; they played the whole thing.

Don't judge Blackpool by the musical numbers. That's just a cracky bonus if you're in to that kind of thing (which I'm actually really not). It's actually a really taught murder mystery that had me so engaged with the actual plot and the characters the first time that I watched it that I fast-forwarded through the musical stuff to get to more plot. There's really only like two musical bits that I really love (the tango is one, the "Should I Stay or Should I Go" in the swimming pool is the other). The rest I could take or leave.

I love John Glover in Gremlins 2! That was one of those movies I was obsessed with when I was a kid, and his role always amused me. He was so, like, ridiculous, with his Clamp Network end of the world video.

I thought Torchwood I and II (what I saw of it) was pretty tasteful as it was. I cower in wretched expectation that it'll now be crap. As for the Tennant-Morrisey tango, seeing Tennant dance just isn't something that does anything for me. I've got no working speakers on this computer, though, so maybe I'm not being fair. I must say that he should take better care of his back. Falling backwards onto one arm like that can't be good for the spine. But Morrisey, that's a different story. He reminds me so much of a slightly younger Liam Neeson that, well, I think I'm gonna watch that silent posing and dancing and posing again. And maybe again and again.

If they're censoring for the US, well, frankly: bitch, please. We're the most hypocritical society, so if they're messing up a show for us? That's sadly stupid. Seriously. Can't have gays kissing, but let's give ever possible serial killers and murders how-to steps in movies and television. *sigh* This is why I want a TV channel that's not expensive per month to watch for those of us with functioning brains and know how to use it.

That's not to say I've seen Torchwood, but I have friends that love it, and I'll fight on their behalf. I just can't watch a show where a flying dinosaur is involved. Jurassic Park was awesome, but it scared the crap out of me.

*grins* Picked out Lionel Luthor finally? I did when it was playing on...HBO or Starz, one of those, this month. I was like "I know that voice. Lionel!" I also happen to love Gremlins 2. So much.

Something about Torchwood makes my eye twitch, but one day I'll try it.

I have HBO and Starz, through a cable box. I share it with my neighbor, the costs, I mean. So it's 45 instead of 90. Which is a help, so it's more affordable. The 1st one creeped me out as a kid, I still can't watch it. I want, too. But, no. It's like Star Wars. But 2, I was hold enough to not be 3 and afraid of the dark for a long time. I loved the second one because of the smart gremlin. He was hilarious to me.
