The Eleventh Doctor Has Been Announced

First of all, the Eleventh Doctor has been announced. And he is...Matt Smith. I’ve never heard of him, and my first thought when I saw his picture was that the Doctor would be sad he wasn’t ginger. Has anyone on my friends list ever seen him in anything? Is he a good pick?

Mom doesn’t like his chin, and thinks he should have bigger hair like Tennant. Here’s his Wikipedia entry. *reads age* I’m older than him.

Now, for some other fannish items of interest--this first one is simply weird.

Bollywood is going to remake Back to the Future. Marty will no longer be a teen—no word on who will be Doc.

David Tennant has made so much progress in his recovery following his back surgery, that he has now been slated to return to rehearsals for Hamlet. Good to hear his recovery has gone so well.

ETA: Also, I won't be cutting this entry for the Doctor news. It's not actually a spoiler, as we all knew the Eleventh Doctor was going to be cast sometime. A lot of people (and groups) on my friends list didn't cut the news, unless it was a long response to the topic.

ETA 2: For those interested, you can watch a 5 minute interview with Matt Smith here. It’s taken from the Confidential where it was announced.

I like the fact that the new Doctor is relatively unknown, however, I prefer my Doctor a bit older.

I suppose I'll get used to it in time.

He was in "Ruby in the Smoke" with Billie Piper - but I have no recollection of him, which just goes to show how much of an impact he made!

He was also in the sequel (which I've not seen) and Secret Dairy (also with Billie) - so I imagine Rose's ghost will continue to inhabit the TARDIS.

When's 12 coming in??

He was in The History Boys, but whether that was the film or just the stage play, I don't know (not yet having seen the film)...

He was actually in Cast B of the stage play of The History Boys...

I didn't even try IMDB - I just googled "Matt Smith Doctor Who"...

Behind a cut would have been appreciated, dear. (I was actually going to try and avoid the news by not reading my flist entries on the subject.)

Thank you for posting it! I can check LJ on the phone, and therefore got it on the bus! I'll have to look him up later <3

Yowza. Mr. Smith is rather young. I guess he's the youngest Doctor yet. I'm rather looking forward to how that might change things for the show. I can't wait to see him in action.

Bollywood Back to the Future? Psshh. Nobody can beat the classics.

Mom doesn’t like his chin, and thinks he should have bigger hair like Tennant

My very first thought upon finally seeing him (Damn Confidential and their bleeding far too long retrospective...) was "Good god, what a ridiculously big forehead". So I guess he's going to need the longer hair

And he's only two months older than me. Which has done precisely nothing for my post-birthday feeling old session :(

I'm not quite that bad yet - I'm certainly feeling like I should have a lawn, and not a room rented of my parents though!

I'm sorry, but he seems far too young. Not necessarily age, but...attitude. Like the bit on YouTube that was talking about what being the Doctor will bring. Very naive.

I think that's what people are responding to so much. It's not his age because there's are some 26-year-olds that react like a 30something. It's the youngness. Everyone knows I hated Ten - except with Donna - but he was took a calm down pill compared to Eleven's hand movements. What is it with Doctors and motion sickness?

Wow. A Doctor who's two years younger than me. Well, there does seem to be a trend of the Doctor getting increasingly younger with every regeneration, so this seems acceptable.

Congratulations to him. I hope he'll be able to do the role justice.

This might not be so bad, having this guy as the Doctor. He seems to be pretty much unknown. A fresh new face with no immediate connections may bring us back to focus on the stories and plots, which is always nice. I think your mom may have a point about his hair, but I think it's because he needs more height to his head to counteract his odd-looking nose. It almost looks like it was broken but it's not crooked. Oh well. And welcome to the world of "I'm older than him." I've been thinking that all through DT's tenure, accept I've been thinking "He's way, way younger than me." This way, I can make the handicap his. ;-)
