And here’s the Doctor Who Question Meme, taken from
humansrsuperior:
1. When did you start watching?
When the Sci-Fi Channel started showing season 1.
1a. Why?
My friends list seemed to be squeeing over it, and I wanted to give it a shot. My only other exposure to Doctor Who were a couple novels (which were Sherlock Holmes crossovers) I managed to find via mail order many years ago.
2. What was your first episode?
I saw a few seconds of the very end of The End of the World, when Cassandra fell apart. This was followed by The Unquiet Dead. I wasn’t interested in the Cassandra bit at that point, but I loved The Unquiet Dead. I tend to prefer the episodes set in the past. Naturally, the first episode I saw had to involve the dead walking through London. It’s a trend with me, as I’ve told
seandc in the past.
First episode I saw of Highlander? Archangel—the only one with a demon in it. First episode I saw of Dark Shadows? The episode where Barnabas is possessed by the Leviathans. First episode of Torchwood I saw? Carys possessed by the sex alien. First episode of Buffy? Dead Man’s Party—yep, zombies. I take it everyone sees the pattern. (Which is likely broken, since I never saw a zombie on Veronica Mars.)
3. Which episodes have you seen?
All of the new series, the McGann tv movie, Curse of the Fatal Death, and a handful of episodes of the old series.
3a. Favourite?
There are a lot of episodes I enjoy, but I can’t immediately think of a favorite. It’s likely a tie between Blink, and Utopia/Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords. Also, Human Nature/Family of Blood.
4. Are your friends/family interested in the show?
I think I’ve managed to hook my Dad on it. When I finish watching a downloaded episode, he transfers it to his laptop before I delete it. Mom’s not really interested, but she does like Tennant.
5. Which Doctor is your favourite?
I would have to say the Tenth Doctor.
6. Which Doctor is your least favourite?
Going by what I’ve seen of the old series, I would have to say the Sixth Doctor.
7. Which TV companion is your favourite?
Donna Noble, with Martha Jones a very close second.
8. Which TV companion is your least favorite?
Rose, probably.
9. Do you listen to the Big Finish audios?
No. I would rather read a story, than listen to an audio.
9a. If so, which is your favourite?
N/A
9b. Also: which Big Finish companion is your favourite?
N/A
10. have you listened to any non-Big Finish audios?
No.
11. Have you read any of the novels or short stories?
The novels are almost impossible for me to find, but I’m trying. I’ve read: Only Human, Vampire Science, Seeing I, Matrix and Prime Time. I have three or four other Eighth Doctor novels that I managed to find via Ebay.
11a. Have you written any of the novels or short stories?
No.
11b. Which is your favourite?
It’s a tie between Vampire Science and Seeing I.
12. Have you read any of the comics?
Only the snippets that get posted on
scans_daily or
doctorwho.
13. Do you watch any of the spinoffs (e.g. Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures?)
I watch Torchwood, and will continue to do so. I watched the first episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures when it aired on the Sci-Fi Channel. Seemed too much of a kid’s show, so I quit.
13a. Which is your favourite?
Torchwood.
14. Is there any particular episode/book/audio/comic you desparatedly want to watching/listen to/read?
If it’s ever put into a graphic novel, then I’ll read the comic The Forgotten. I don’t know which Martha or Donna related novels are worth reading and aren’t aimed at kids, or I would be hunting them down. I’m still looking for a few of the Eighth Doctor novels that are reportedly worth reading.
FANDOM
1. Do you write fanfic for Doctor Who?
Yes.
1a. If so, post a snippet of a work-in-progress (or several).
I would post a snippet of the fanfic where Martha turns out to be an Immortal, but that’s still primarily in outline form.
2. Do you create Doctor Who icons?
No.
3. Recommend a fanfic/icon/favid/fancomic/fancreation!
There are too many good ones out there—currently, I can’t think of anything.
4. Have you been to any Doctor Who conventions?
No.
5. Have you ever dressed up as a Doctor Who character?
No.
6. Do you own any Doctor Who merchandise?
Other than a few of the novels, no.
7. Are you a fan of Russel T Davies?
Not really.
7a Steven Moffat?
I loved Blink and Curse of the Fatal Death, so I think so.
7b. Paul Cornell?
Yes. I believe he wrote one of the two novels that I stumbled across via a mail order catalog before I knew what Doctor Who was. It was Happy Endings, and involved a wedding—maybe Benny’s? The other one I read was All-Consuming Fire, by Andy Lane. It was a Sherlock Holmes crossover, and I believe I only read the Sherlock Holmes parts—until I looked it up a few minutes ago, I thought it was also written by Paul Cornell. Someday, I’ll reread them.
8. What say you to Season 6b?
Nothing to say, since I don’t know much about it.
9. The UNIT dating controversy?
I don’t know anything about it, other than a comment about the 80’s being dented when Donna was driving the TARDIS.
10. The Blinovitch Limitation effect?
I know of it from mentions on the show. Otherwise, nothing until I check Wikipedia.
11. Multi-Doctor episodes?
I like them. I managed to find The Five Doctors, and it was interesting.
12. What's your favourite Doctor Who technobable?
Probably the Tenth Doctor rambling on and on at high speeds.
13. Have you watched other TV shows exclusively because of the presence of Doctor Who actors?
Life on Mars, because of John Simm. Other than that, no. I considered watching Blackpool for Tennant and Morrissey, but decided it didn’t seem as interesting as I expected. And I just watched Ruby in the Smoke yesterday, to see if Matt Smith could act. The answer? He seems it, even if he didn’t have all that much to do. He can run through back alleys wonderfully, though, which is always important if you’re the Doctor.
He also doesn’t look quite as creepy and odd as he does in still photos—give him hair like in that movie when he’s the Doctor, and it should be okay. Billie Piper was great in it, too.
14. Have you met any of the actors?
I’m not that fortunate.
14a. Travelled to any filming locations?
Live in the wrong country for that, I’m afraid.
15. What do you think of The Curse of Fatal Death?
I thought it was hysterical. I keep it on the external hard drive, just in case I ever get the urge to rewatch it.
16. Do you have any fannish opinions that you think are fairly unpopular?
Not that I’m aware of.
17. What's your favourite pairing?
There are a lot of pairings that I like—I don’t have one favorite. They include: Doctor/Jack, Martha/Jack, Martha/Doctor, Donna/Doctor, Donna/Jack, Clone Doctor/Donna, Clone Doctor/Martha, Doctor/Master. I like Clone Doctor and Rose stories where they’re mostly friends.
18. What pairing(s) won't you touch with a really long pole?
Doctor/River Song. Doctor/Jackie, unless it’s humor.

And SJA is WAY better than Torchwood! Much better character development and much stronger narratives (because they can't rely on either sex (like in TW) or CGI (like in DW).

As long as The Sarah Jane Adventures don't dwell on the Slitheen for more than a couple of episodes (I think that's when I first caught it on the Sci-Fi Channel, at least) then I might give it another shot.

Yes, I preferred S2 to S1.

The Slitheen are in the first and last two-parters of S1 and as far as I can tell, they like to bring back whichever monster/villain's in the season opener for the finale as the lone Sontaran was in both the first and last stories of S2... Perhaps you could try watching S2 first (as it's definitely the stronger of the two) then go back watch S1 if you enjoy S2?
