Random Moments From Today

A few minutes ago, Mom went out into the garage—and found a survival kit in case of emergencies or natural disaster. Everyone completely forgot (and I never knew) that it had paper plates, extra batteries, water, flashlights, etc...

In other news, UPS is back in action around here—I know, because everything Mom ordered from QVC prior to the ice storm finally arrived. Oh, and the garbage man finally came through a few minutes ago. Dad was watching tv, heard it, and flew out the door at top speed, shouting at them to wait a minute while he brought over two beyond full cans. They actually waited. They only made it halfway down the street before their truck was full and about to overflow.

But Dad managed to throw one last garbage bag in as it pulled away. *laughs*

They left, and came back an hour later to finish up.

Tree-related: Three tree cutter companies (one was from North Carolina) have showed up in the last 3 hours, asking if they could help out with chopping down our trees. We have to keep explaining that we already have someone.

The part that keeps boggling me - you have a yard, with a tree... and don't own a chainsaw?

Is this normal, city folk?

I have one of those slicers on a pole that I used to keep my trees under control, but for big-time trimming or removal of a tree damaged in a storm, I call a professional.

I can't believe the garbage men waited! Isn't it amazing how much more you appreciate these services when they've been gone a few days? It's good to hear things are getting back to normal.
