Writer's Block: More Island Time
[Error: unknown template qotd]
Only five things? At the rate I read, I would probably end up reading everything the first week on the island, and then wanting more books. I would probably really want to drag every bookshelf I owned along with me.
1. The complete works of Edgar Allan Poe.
2. A collection of all the Sherlock Holmes stories.
3. Good Omens, by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Maybe include a complete works of both authors (since I’ve yet to read the Discworld series) to really leave me with a lot to read while I’m trapped on that island.
4. Dracula, by Bram Stoker.
5. Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley
And, if I had had any room left on that list, I would have added The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the novels that included Dracula (like The Dracula Tape) by Fred Saberhagen, The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle, and Wicked, by Gregory Maguire. I’ve never read those last two.

I highly highly recommend The Last Unicorn; it very nearly made my list.

"Probably"? *raises eyebrow* I'm not sure five books would last you that long!

I know... but please, think of my poor back!
Ooohh me lumbago!
Now, if you're going to be specifying boxsets/complete works like that (cheaty cheaty ;) though I'd do the same, coz you shouldn't break up a set), you'll also have to be specific about editions for the others - for instance, you'd need an edition of Dracula that not only has the text, but also the contexts and discussion (and I know the Dymocks in the city has one like this, but have no idea of the title)
Stuck on a desert island, I think I'd want something along the lines of The SAS Survival Handbook myself... or similar titles, although The Space Corps Survival Handbook (published as part of Red Dwarf's seventh season) probably wouldn't be as helpful....
Oh, and my DS (and a way to power it), since I'd got the "game" of 100 Classics in there (so handy for reading in bed!)
