I would call in either Adrian Monk, or Sherlock Holmes.
I just read the Wikipedia summary for the series finale of the US version of Life on Mars. My icon sums it all up. Just...so very, very stupid, and brain breakingly out there. I thought it was an April Fool’s joke at first, but it’s not. The Doctor’s reaction of “...what? What? WHAT?!” does indeed apply here.
Part of me wants to see it, so if someone could direct me to a Youtube clip of that part, I would be grateful.

I don't think it's aired yet. I don't know where people are getting this information.

(icon is a deal too appropriate under the circumstances)
OP: Clive Merrison!Holmes (BBC Radio adaptations), Jeremy Brett!Holmes (UK TV adaptations), Basil Rathbone!Holmes, Peter Cushing!Holmes (he did a "Hound of the Baskervilles" once), or Robert Downey, Jr!Holmes? (http://community.livejournal.com/lom_usa/25683.html)

Matt Frewer was also Holmes in a few Hallmark Channel movies, but I wouldn't want him on the case.

Got it. Nicol Williamson.

...And good grief. "House" and "Bones" excepted, it looks like Fry and Laurie are the only British actors who *haven't* played Holmes and might've.
