Fannish Items of Interest

This [community profile] fanficrants post is guaranteed to fill you with either horror or a strange amusement at how far Twilight has spread—Dracula does not sparkle.

A kid is keeping a lending library of banned books in his/her locker. Edit: Thanks go out to [personal profile] brewsternorth for spotting that a few comments mention this is likely a hoax. Would have been fun if it were definitely true.

Disney is remaking Flight of the Navigator.

Apparently, Doctor Who is going to get an animated series, starring David Tennant, Georgia Moffett, and David Warner.

Found via [profile] whedonesque (I’m linking to the [profile] whedonesque post, which links to that): Vertigo Entertainment is in talks to do a Buffy movie—it would be a reboot without Joss, SMG, Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendan, or anyone else. From the sound of it, I doubt it will get very far. Another post about it can be found over at Io9.

Ghostbusters 3 news: One of Bill Murray’s conditions for returning was apparently that Winston have a larger role, to put him on equal footing with the others. It’s mentioned toward the end of the article.

People are now linking to their finished (or unfinished, in some cases) stories for the Finish-A-Thon, hosted at [community profile] multific. If anyone on my friends list missed mine, you can read A Beautiful, Pie-Filled Disaster here—or here at Teaspoon.

ETA: Can't believe I didn't think to link to this one. Over at Io9, they linked to a trailer made by a fan, to support the idea of Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern. I assumed it would be something that wasn't that well made, but wow. The person doing the trailer did a spectacular job with the CGI, even including what looked like scenes from Castle, Firefly, Superman Returns--and, possibly, Watchmen. You can watch it here at Io9--read the comments there, too.

Not keen on an animated Doctor Who series. The live-action show is already pretty child friendly and what with Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventurs and regular Who, I fear this could be overkill. Also seems odd that Tennant would leave the live action show because he doesn't want to do it forever but will actually play the same character again anyway.

Ghostbusters 3 has me very apprehensive. I'm not even sure I'll see it. The second one wasn't that good (passable as a bit of fun but not to be taken seriously) and there's just a feeling I have that's setting off my alarm bells.

I agree about it being too long. If this had happened ten years ago I might have been able to get at least somewhat excited. I love Ghostbusters; when I was in New York, I made a special trip to see the firehouse and Dana's apartment building from the first film. It was awesome. But I think Ghostbusters was a product of its time and fear that the unique charm and quirkness just won't be there in a new film after so long. One of the best things about the original GB films is how very 80s they are. I would miss that horribly in an updated version. These movies were childhood classics and I always feel over protective of those.

But I'm particularly wary of a girl ghostbuster. Not because I don't think it could be awesome but because Hollywood is so lazy and I just dread the idea that it'll just be a one dimensional "fiesty" female who has a loud mouth and little substance. But we'll have to be patient and see, I guess.

I'm going to follow updates on this and see what kind of hype is generated. If any movie is going to be a flop, it usually becomes fairly clear quite early on. I really don't want to see GB flop in the same way that films like Thunderbirds and Catwoman did but I have a bad, bad feeling about this that I cannot shake.

Great if true - however, comments at the post seem to imply this's a hoax.

Ah, there's the signal I was waiting for.
