Fannish Items of Interest--Mostly Doctor Who Related
There’s a new trailer for Torchwood’s Children of Earth. It’s two minutes long, and you can watch it on Youtube--here’s the link.
The new companion for the Eleventh Doctor was announced today. I don’t consider it a spoiler, since it’s just about the companion--just like it wasn’t a spoiler that the Doctor would eventually regenerate. I originally put in a cut tag at this point, but I see that most of my friends list isn't doing so, so I've removed it.
The new companion is someone by the name of Karen Gillan. She was one of the soothsayers in The Fires of Pompeii, which explains why her eyes seemed vaguely familiar--that would have been all you could see of her under the make-up, if she’s the one I’m thinking of.

doctorwho has posted pictures of her here, if anyone is interested. I say it’s good that it’s someone most haven’t heard of.
David Tennant will reprise his role in Hamlet for BBC Two—I’ll probably track it down once it airs. And for those that wonder? A DVD is planned.
Sci-Fi Wire tells why you should watch the final episodes of Pushing Daisies. Someday I might get around to watching the first episode, at the very least.

Anyway, I don't mind River Song showing up, but I sort of like the idea that she never actually was a companion, they just kept running into each other at different times in her life. Then again, I also liked the idea (which never came to be but still could) that at some point the Doctor has to make a choice between preserving his supposed future with River Song, and preventing some calamity in the here and now.
And, considering River seemed to recognize the Doctor and said that he was the youngest she'd ever seen him, it seems like it'd be a bit of a continuity error if she met him so soon into Eleven, since he'd be younger still. It's even possible she actually met alt-Ten, who went on to have some of his own adventures.

For some reason, at the time I assumed she meant his eyes were older when she knew him. More mature. The alt-Ten's a good theory, though. It's that, or Eleven showed (or will show--whatever the tense should be!) her pictures of Ten in happier times, so that she would recognize him when she went to the Library, so that she could try to gain his past self's trust.
