Oooh. And at that point, because she believed it, she might reinforce it, yes? Especially since her childhood sucked so much that a morlock telling her that the surface dwellers don't want monsters like them is pretty much what she was told when she was in that cage in the circus.
(I'm thinking of doing a Morlock plot where Artie's old mother splits with what's left of the Morlocks and decides to take back the tunnels. And then she sees Artie and co and, at that point, it's kind of a case of taking a new generation to replace the one they lost in the morlock massacre. Only, she's an empath - hence why Artie can't remember almost aything of his early childhood - so when she's taking them back, she means it and they're going to believe and fight to protect their tunnels.)
