Update On The Storms
Last night was supposed to be the night of horrible stuff all night long. I heard the heavy rain start around 8:45 PM. Decided to go to bed around 9 PM, with the expectation I would be up again soon for the rest of the night. Well...I fell asleep, and woke up at the time I normally do, in the morning. Whatever happened, everyone in this house slept through it.
So after 5 days of barely more than an hour's sleep, everyone was just out cold for it all. I do know that when I went to bed the storms split in two, took out various places, hit Murray again, and then merged before continuing to various other spots.
This morning, Mom heard from a friend in Memphis that a huge group of people fled their houses (since things seemed worse than usual) and went to a hospital down there. They retreated to the basement while tornadoes hit, and managed to survive.
We're going to have another round or so over the course of today, and then it's done for two days. Saturday and Sunday there will be rain, but I don't know if it's as insane as the rest of it yet.
I've also heard that the reason the levees broke in Poplar Bluff was because they weren't up to code, and hadn't been for years. Someone was always putting off getting it fixed, assuming there would be more time to do it somewhere down the line. There wasn't.
Oh, and we've finally heard that Dad's best friend (Chris) is alive. We hadn't heard from him since this whole mess started. Meanwhile, Nellie is going to be heading for Eddyville to check on her farm since the storms went insane there yesterday evening. She's been warned that the roads are bad, and will turn around if she needs to.
Yesterday, someone had to be rescued from Husband Road after ignoring the high water signs. So, now, the news keeps showing footage of this and saying "This could be you! Heed the warnings!" The lady's fine. Her car floated away after 4 more inches of water rose as she waited for help. A cop stayed with her until more help arrived.

Actually, I'm quite glad you were all able to get some rest. There's nothing you can do when Nature gets furious, and being awake through it only brings stress. Take care of yourselves.

My thoughts are with you, hoping that nature settles down soon.
