Goodbye, Monitor

Well, the monitor bit the dust shortly after church. It lasted for somewhere between 5-7 years, it's unclear as to the exact number. For a short period, Dad let me borrow his Toshiba tv monitor--which I loved--before we switched over to a computer monitor (after Dad bought it on sale, driving through some random torrential rain on a Sunday) that was called LG E2360V. With that one, it quickly became apparent that something was off about it. Let's just say the end result no matter how much altering the contrast or brightness we did resulted in the desperate need for sunglasses.

And, for some strange reason, letters were blurry. Gave me a headache. When Dad tried to use it and had the same thing happen no matter the setting alteration, he decided to take it back--apparently, it's a known issue. That would be why it was on sale. So I'm keeping his Toshiba tv, and he'll try to get his money back. And then find a new tv for himself, I'm guessing.

Let's see--only thing left from when I first got a computer 15 years ago is the keyboard now. I almost want to take bets for when that will go.

Dad has asked me to take a quick poll of my friends list, before he goes anywhere else. What is the best computer monitor that people would vouch for?

Old keyboards are remarkably rugged... I've got a few from about that same time that still work (the main reason I don't use them is comfort issues, or, in one case, because although the connector is the same TYPE, the connector on the computer tower burnt out and I can only use USB keyboards on that computer... and I'm on my 2nd one of those in a year)

At least it had the grace to die safely. My last tube monitor did the blurry-letter thing before its rather spectacular death... it actually caught fire while I was using it. O_o

I've sworn off using any monitors that aren't flat screen as a result. That was traumatizing, that was.

It didn't burst into flames right in front of me... I noticed that the room was getting very smokey and traced it to the monitor, unplugged the monitor and threw it outside in the snow, then it burst into flames and blazed away happily for a minute or two before extinguishing itself.

My mother came home, saw the monitor in the yard and didn't believe my story.

I've had good luck with Asus monitors.

I've had good luck with my HP monitors thus far. :)

I have a Dell monitor currently but the roomie has and loves her Acer monitor. Our TV is Acer as well I believe and we've never had a problem with either.

Mine's an LG, currently. It seems pretty awesome.
