Access Denied

So far, I cannot get to these sites: Clique Clack, Demonoid, That Guy With The Glasses, Insanejournal. Every other site that I frequent appears to be fine. I don’t know what’s going on, since Down For Everyone Or Just You says all four are up. And I’m still receiving notifications from Insanejournal, I just can’t get to it. Anyone else having any problems? It’s been like this since yesterday. The message is merely "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage."

I tested it in Chrome, and get an “Oops! We couldn’t open this page,” so whatever is going on isn’t just IE, and it isn’t PC Tools.

Also, I need a good, well-lit, large screencap of Wolfram and Hart’s files and records room, for [personal profile] seandc. So far, I’ve only found screencaps that are pitch black, or too blurry/stretched to make anything out. Or one that was too small for him to use. It would have been featured in Angel, season 3’s Dad, and season 4’s Home.

I just tried my Demonoid account, and got in okay.

Works fine for me. If I had to guess, your HOSTS file has been messed with (which could be set to specifically block you from specific sites), but it could be something else. No other ideas there.

Well, if you're trying to get to those site from an Internet connection at work, it'd say they've been blocked. If not, I have no clue.

Try pinging the websites (http://www.mediacollege.com/internet/troubleshooter/ping.html), and see if you get any replies

Is there another computer in your house? Do you have a smartphone with wifi that you can use to test your connection?

I'd just check with another computer/device to see if the problem is actually with your computer, or if your ISP is having a hiccup

Have you tried pinging or surfing to those sites by their IP addresses?

[identity profile] magikfanfic.livejournal.com 2011-11-10 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't sure if you had tried by just the names or the IPs as well the first go around.

Have you taken your computer into safe mode with networking to try? If I missed that in the above, I'm sorry. I just woke up and I tend to miss things.

If your DNS is set to dynamic, you could try switching it over to the military and see if that does anything.

Do you guys have a router? If so I would recommend bypassing it and connecting one of the computers straight to your broadband modem (again I'm assuming what equipment you have so if this doesn't correlate I apologize). I've seen instances of routers blocking really weird things. If it's still occurring when you have only one computer connected--or if that's the way you typically operate--I would recommend trying to change the DNS settings to military. It's possible that your ISP is having a DNS issue with some of those sites.

Yeah. It's really starting to sound like it. If you call them about it, they might have you switch to military DNS for testing depending on how their network is setup.

Normally I would recommend flushing the DNS and resetting the winsock as well but since it's multiple computers and what with the IP test results I don't anticipate that would do any good.

Bummer. Sorry.

LOL. Just found the original entry--someone directed me to the follow-up and asked me to help you. Sorry to give you advice you already had. Good luck with the ISP!
