When Extreme Weather Hits

Okay, the expected massive storm just came through. We're in one piece. It hit at 1:15 PM, and didn't leave until 2:07 PM. To summarize:

*Moments before it hit, Mom and I went to the front door, because we thought we heard something. We looked out, there was a loud crack. The wind suddenly tore the top tree limbs off of Nellie's (she doesn't live there anymore, she's with her daughter dealing with pancreatic cancer) tree, and sent them toward the front door. Mom pulled me away, and the limbs blew on down the road. There's still one small one in the road--or there was, Danny is currently moving it. We closed the door, and the banging sound may have been part of that limb hitting the wall.

We're both okay, everyone is fine.

*There was a wall cloud directly over us moments later. There was a funnel cloud in Reidland. Here, the hail was supposedly golf ball sized as it went sideways. It's currently melted down to pea sized. Intense rain (sideways and straight down at once) at 70 mph. Some water is in the garage, but not as much as there could have been.

*The local news (who are one block away from me) ran for cover, and everyone there went to the center of the building (leaving the camera running, and nobody there except the weather map) for the first time that I can recall. I'm not surprised, though, as we had several intense moments, with pillows over our heads.

*A few power lines are down in Lone Oak, and near a few doctor's offices. Before anything happened outside of the wind, power went down for a local college.

*Before this came through, we hit 80 degrees outside. Now, it's 49 degrees.

*Toby is okay. We went out for a few minutes after everything passed, and he was peeking out carefully. And so is the ancient rabbit that survived the ice storm, currently seeking sanctuary under the overhang of the garage.

*The used bookstore I go to had water get inside. The owner would like the world to know that "no books were harmed in the course of this madness." She also said the power of her will saved the books.

*Reportedly, Toys R Us had their front doors shatter, and the mall was without power.

Best of luck to anyone in the way of this thing, as it heads east.

ETA: Dad risked heading to the other house. Power is out over there, and someone else's shingles are in the front yard. No damage that he can see. He's planning to take a look around this house now, to see if there's any problems.

ETA 2: I'm watching CNN. As of 4 PM, I have learned that after the storm left us, it went to Henrysville, Indiana--which was completely destroyed. They reportedly got an F5 tornado. Last I heard, it was headed for Nashville. Marysville, Indiana is gone, according to their Mayor.

Glad you guys are okay -- and very glad the actual funnel cloud wasn't near you.

Man, that's scary. I'm glad you're okay. And that the books are dry.

We escaped with just a crapload of hail, and about 8,000 people are without power on the other side of the city. I hear that tornadoes were lingering around in the surrounding counties, but I don't know that any actually touched down. It seems to be doing more damage in KY and maybe east TN than over here.

OH man, I'm so glad to hear you're okay! It sound so horrible, especially that it's picking up speed in Indiana.
