Repaired!

The repairman from Comcast arrived at 11 AM on the dot even with thunderstorms going on in the area, and was an insanely nice guy. He immediately assumed whatever was wrong had to be Comcast's fault, and was genuinely surprised that it turned out to actually be something on our end after all.

Turns out our modem had killed itself in such a way that it looked like it was continuing to work when it was beyond its last legs. So you'd get moments when things worked, blips of nothing, it would be back--looking like Comcast had issues. He said it was the living dead, "a zombie." He gave us a new one, explained everything perfectly, and ventured off to throw our old one out since there is no way that anyone can use it.

He gave us a link to a broadband Speed test for Xfinity/Comcast, so we'll know exactly what servers are dying at any given point and what our speed is, too--just to be nice, apparently. He explained everything in detail, even the type our old one was, what the new one was, and gave a suggestion for what an even faster modem might be if we ever thought of upgrading.

Before he left, due to the massive number of books we have in various spots, he asked Mom for bookstore recommendations for his wife.

Now, even Dad's ancient laptop can use the internet at fast speeds. He said he almost didn't know what to do now that he could watch videos.
