Well, That Didn't Go Well...

As a (one day early) birthday present to myself, I had planned to go see Rifftrax Live yesterday at 7 PM. It didn’t work out due to a massive migraine.

However, at 7:20 PM, I’m told that the power went out for the entire mall area thanks to a seriously intense storm that began to rip through the area and downed several power lines. So nobody in Paducah that went to see it could, either. My migraine (and associated sickness) kept me from being in stadium seating with a lot of stairs in a pitch black theater.

As a recap of everything people were dealing with here, when I would have preferred Rifftrax:

-70 mph winds according to the hospital a block from here.
-Hail the size of tennis balls, which I’m told ruined a few cars in the parking lot at Cinemark.
-Swirling wall cloud directly over the house, which amplified my migraine.
-Constant, strange ball lightning.
-The house shook for a full minute, thanks to lightning hitting too close and striking the building where they do the news—it took out cable and internet until a few hours after it was over.
-The sky turned green at one point, which Trent Okerson (weather guy) says, and I quote, “means things are about to get real.”
-The roof started to leak. It was confined to the attic and from what Dad could determine (yes, he went up there in the worst of it all with a bucket) it was just some of the rain going sideways with enough force to come between the slats. There was no actual hole anywhere that he saw.
-All this lasted from 7:15 PM, until maybe 10 PM.
-Oh, and as it all hit--right before it got to us, it apparently hit the soccer field a block away. Because Dad heard the screams of little girls. Lightning had struck the field near a few, they were running for cover.

It was the day off for one weather person, who was reportedly trapped in a parking lot at a grocery store during the storm, and had several shopping carts fly by him as he dodged the large hail. Here, Dad thought he’d lost our garbage cans to the wind—but someone from another street brought them back, having seen the progress of it last night.

So that was my night! If you went to see Rifftrax, and the power didn't go out where you were, how was it?

(Around 4 PM, when it was obvious I wasn’t going anywhere, Dad was nice enough to head out there and ask the good people at Cinemark if I could have my money back, as I bought tickets a month ago. The answer was yes.)

That sucks that you couldn't see the concert, but yay that you're getting your money back. And migraines suck huge hairy, skanky donkey balls.

Gah, migraines suck. As do intense storms.

Hope you're feeling much better today, and Happy Birthday :D

A friend who went to see it in Seattle said it was great. I don't know that that makes you feel any better, though! Hope your head feels better now, at least.

Wow, that's some serious weather indeed! Hope you feel better now, and glad they were able to refund your tickets at least.

Oh man, I think I would have been glad to be at home during that mess. Hail storms always give me the worst migraines. I would imagine your migraine was brought on by the weather moving through.

I'm glad you and you're family are okay! *hugs*
