The Snow
The local news says it’s about 6 inches of snow around here. Due to the road conditions, someone crashed on I-24, going off the road into a snow drift that was higher than that. One woman was headed for the mall (not knowing it was closed because of the blizzard at that point) to spend some money on a post-holiday sale…she said now she’s spending it (and much more) on a new car. Road crews advise people to avoid going out into this. Around 9 AM, Mom risked going outdoors in the blizzard (it ended a little later) to see if she could knock off some snow and check the state of the van. Because if the power went out, we would need to get in there for warmth. The locks are frozen shut. She also discovered that you can't get out of the garage right now.
As of noon, we were one of the lucky ones that didn’t have a power outage. Just in case, because I remembered what happened last time, I ended up sleeping in a coat and the clothes I wore during the day. The wind is currently 32 mph.
(Dad phoned to request that Mom bring a few boxes of tissue to the hospital, since they had run out. There was a lot of laughing in disbelief, because we can’t even get out of the driveway. So Dad said he could send a friend to pick it up if the road was iffy for us—that friend laughed hysterically upon hearing this, telling him to go downstairs to the front of the hospital and take a long look. I think he gets it now.)
On a lighter note, looks like they’ve revealed the Yuletide Madness stories. Someone wrote Friends From The Deep for me, a crossover between The Addams Family and the Cthulhu Mythos.
