Rest In Peace, Joseph Mascolo

Joseph Mascolo has passed away at the age of 87; reportedly, he had battled Alzheimer’s for many years. May he rest in peace. Ken Corday released a statement on his death. He also attended Paducah’s Telethon of Stars for a few years, and always seemed nice when he was interviewed locally. Sadly, I never had the chance to meet him in person.

I loved him as Stefano Dimera. He was most of why (the other piece of why was Sami) I was hooked on Days Of Our Lives for as long as I was, and part of what got me interested in the first place. I first started watching Days during the possession of Marlena—one of my first episodes? When Marlena, possessed by the Devil, throws Stefano over the balcony and it results in him having amnesia. And how did he get his memory back? He was merely struck by lightning—his memory was back, and I don’t think he was the worse for wear.

I loved his character’s constant machinations. Mascolo (and his character of Stefano) will be deeply missed.

(In honor of one Phoenix, I use the icon of another.)

Oh, Stephano!! Wow. I watched Days on and off for *mumble mumble* years and remember him from his very early days there on through. I also was watching B&B when he Massimo Maroni there. He had such a great presence on screen. He will be missed.

I'm really sad that he's passed. He was one of my favorite actors on Days of Our Lives. I used to watch it with my mother when I was younger and he always had such charisma that I still rooted for him amidst the evil behavior.

I haven;t watched a soap opera in... decades. Literally. It was around the time Laura Spencer killed Nicholas Cassidine that I turned off the tv during the day. I can't remember what the storylines were for the other soaps I watched but all I can remember was they were not keeping my interest. I did adore Stefano Dimera and I absolutely fell in love with Thaao Penghlis when he was on the revised Mission:Impossible. I recently went back to see which ones were still on but they were unrecognizable now.
