Two Book Memes

Find the nearest book to you, turn to page 45, and read the first sentence: this describes your sex life in 2018.

Let’s go with an assortment of books I have nearby. First, one of my copies of Dracula.

"If I be sane, then surely it is maddening to think that of all the foul things that lurk in this hateful place the Count is the least dreadful to me; that to him alone I can look for safety, even though this be only whilst I can serve his purpose."

From Quincey Morris, Vampire, by P.N. Elrod (ebook, since it’s nothing of note in the physical copy I have):

"Art had slowed considerably. It was hard to tell whether his obvious weariness was from the hurt he'd taken, the press of the wind, or pure exhaustion."

It was Arthur making his way through a blizzard, with Quincey watching from afar. Still amusing.

Carmilla: "It would be vain my attempting to tell you the horror with which, even now, I recall the occurrence of that night."

The Last Unicorn: "The harpy crouched on her body, hiding it from sight, and the bronze wings turned red." (Mommy Fortuna was being eaten by a harpy)

Make of all of that what you will. I also remembered there was another version of this meme, so I went hunting through old posts of mine. I found it, and changed 2017 to 2018. Grab the nearest book, flip to page 117, the second sentence is your life in 2018.

Carmilla’s not long enough for this one to work, so from The Last Unicorn: “Something in his winter presence blighted all words, tangled meanings, and bent honest intentions into shapes as tormented as the towers of his castle.”

Quincey Morris, Vampire:
“I only knew how bad it was from the way the rest of you were acting, but my heart was light, truly it was, for I could see that we'd saved Miss Mina."

Dracula, one of my many copies (one of my ebooks of it, since otherwise I run into the same quote as I used last year): “He is evidently the Sir Oracle of them, and I should think must have been in his time a most dictatorial person.”

That’s Mina, thinking about Mr. Swales. 2018 should prove to be interesting, and filled with the cold of winter* if I choose to take Haggard's description literally.

*Which, yes, that was a given. We have four inches of snow on the ground right now, and can't get out as more falls. A snowdrift at the garage was 2 feet tall until Dad carved his way out the other day. -15 degrees Fahrenheit tomorrow morning, for the wind chill. Hence the icon.

Let's see....

"MacLeod knows he is gifted but he recognises his limitations."
Well, ok, next sentence...
"He wants my treasures, the subtle refinements that will transform him from barbarian to a true master of the blade."
That's more in the spirit, though I'm sure I don't know what treasures....
"Will he take my skills and use them to conquer me..."
And we say goodbye to context, and oo-er Vicar!

That was from Highlander: An Evening At Joe's, let's see what else we have...

"I have seen bare chests before," the Countess replied.

I think I just won this round with The Princess Bride, this year is looking up ;)

(as for the other meme, well, if it'd specified any other sentence on that page for AEAJ it would've been good to use, but the existing sentence is rather not reassuring without it's context, and TPB is somewhere in Inigo's harshest past).

Oh, well that helps :D Sooo, life in the new year once more is with those sentences... and avoiding the harshest times

Oh!

So you think I should learn... swordcraft? :D (I must have been distracted by the treasures the first time...)
