Dennis “Denny” O’Neil passed away last night, at the age of 81, reportedly due to natural causes. May he rest in peace. As one of the sites I linked to states, his work “included writing Batman, Detective Comics, and Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, as well as editing DC’s Batman titles from 1986 to 2000.”

I just checked to confirm: he also wrote the novelization for Batman Knightfall, as well as ones for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. He co-wrote two episodes of Batman: The Animated Series: The Demon’s Quest: Part 1, and Part 2. There were so many wonderful installments in the mythos of Batman that he managed to write over the decades. He will be greatly missed.
