Progress With The Bathroom Floor, And Batman Begins Novelization

Scarily, Dad finished fixing everything within 3 1/2 hours. I'm waiting to see if anyone falls through the floor now.

While I stayed somewhere else, I read most of the Batman Begins novel. (Ra's mentions in a diary that he has sired 412 children--almost all girls, only two boys. He's worse than Stefano on Days of Our Lives with all those kids! Talia was mentioned a couple times, at least.) And for those who are fans of slash, there were two lines where Bruce wonders if he has feelings for Ducard, or if it's just Stockholm Syndrome.

I'll post those lines. They're going behind the cut, though, for those who don't care.

Was it possible to love a man who did little more than brutalize one? Was Bruce Wayne, this pampered child of privilege, suffering from some form of Stockholm Syndrome, becoming emotionally attached to his enemy?

It's on page 80 of the novelization. And if that's not slash, I blame

scans_daily for me seeing it. *laughs*

And now, I need to find a good Batman Begins icon. I've also been going through my Friends List, and saving a lot of extremely well-written reviews of the movie to my Memories section. I had avoided reading anything related to it until I actually saw the movie.

It's definitely worth buying. Very little of the dialogue is changed. There's a few extra scenes from what I've read so far, and every so often, entries from Ra's al Ghul's diary. What he thinks of Bruce, mostly.

Not yet. Mom is waiting for it, though. :lol:

Since the bathroom is very small, I think that's why it didn't take as long. Dad just needs to replace the carpet on the tile, though. Presumably after he's first replaced the tiles, since some of them are broken. (That was the first clue there was something wrong beneath the floor.)

Is this the official B. Begins book you're talking about?

I assume so, since it's been written by Dennis O'Neil. It's the novelization of the movie.

And awesometastic!!! It's been a passing thought of mine to read the book, having seen the movie twice already (three times come tonight). Are they close?!?

Yes, the book has practically everything line-for-line from the movie. It's just as good. There are a few extra things, like more after the final scene in the movie, a few journal entries from Ra's al Ghul, and you see where they are living until the mansion is rebuilt.

And, Leslie Thompkins is briefly mentioned as well. Alfred goes out on the town, and Bruce thinks that he deserves happiness, and he's dating that nice Dr. Thompkins.

Do they mention Shiva?

No, Shiva isn't mentioned at all.

There are a lot of extra scenes where Bruce is researching everything he can about Ra's al Ghul, though. And at one point, dresses as a cat burglar, breaks into somewhere, and takes pictures of a document before leaving.

There's also a long lecture from Alfred about why Bruce is doing what he's doing. It's toward the end of the book, and it's great.

When Al lectures, you listen. It's a rule. Like...a divine rule.

I only just finished it yesterday evening, and it was definitely great.

I think the scene with Gordon trying to drive the Batmobile is a little bit longer. It takes him a while to figure it out. (He sideswipes a car! I don't know if that's in the movie. I didn't notice if he did.)

Gordon...I love him! And in the movie, I think he just nearly runs down the Commish. It was Bruce who was driving over things and such. :3

In the book, he doesn't nearly run over the Commissioner. I think the manhole covers blow up a couple of moments sooner, and the force knocks the guy over. Then, Gordon rides through.

It also has his point of view when the monorail and everything else blows up.

Do they mention Babs?

I saw her in a high chair in the movie. :3

I don't think they mentioned her at all. (Except for Gordon having a wife named Barbara, but that's a different person.) And I had assumed that the baby in the high chair was James. It could have been her, though. I couldn't tell.

I have no idea who James is.

It's not too bad, since he wasn't seen very much. You can see him in the Batman: Year One trade paperback.

Barbara and Gordon had James. In Batman: Year One, he had an affair with Sarah Essen (before Barbara gave birth). After James was born, he was kidnapped, but Batman saved him. (Before he had a good Batman costume.)

Eventually, Barbara and Gordon broke up, and I think she went to Chicago, and took James with her.

Either during all this, or right after, Barbara's parents (the Barbara who became Batgirl/Oracle) are killed in an accident. She is sent to live with Gordon, and he eventually adopts her.

It's all very confusing, since Gordon might actually be Babs' father. (She discovered something that seemed to verify it, but the storyline was dropped.)

So...in the earthquake storylines, the girl Gordon's sweet with isn't related to all of this, is it?

Yes, that would be Sarah Essen. I'm not sure if they actually married, or just stayed together.

She is the one who caused a few things that led to Gordon and Barbara's break-up. Even if she tried to help him by not seeing him anymore. (They couldn't stay away from each other for long.)

This is such a soap. *giggles*

I've always been intregued by how Gordon, who by my guess was only just a side-character, became so developed.

Right now though, I'm lost as to where he went. The last I recall, he was shot and Catwoman framed (?) for it. And he had some grudge with Batman. o___O

When last seen, he was leaving town with Babs after War Games. He was angry at Batman for what he had done, but hoped that the police wouldn't catch him.

What *did* Batman do???

Was it when Bruce left to do the speeches, and Batman wasn't there? Oh, and do you know if Gordon knows about Batgirl 1? That's been irking me for a few days now.

No, in No Man's Land Volume 5, they eventually got over the fact that Batman hadn't been there. Nightwing and Robin were there too, and upset that they were fighting. Nightwing said it felt like his parents were splitting up, since they had been sent upstairs so Gordon and Batman could talk. (Bruce revealed to Gordon that he was Batman, but Gordon refused to look, so he wouldn't have to know.)

I don't think Gordon knows Babs was Batgirl I. At least, he has never said anything for certain about it.

Batman let (he didn't know she was doing it.) Stephanie get her hands on some protocols that included taking over Gotham's underworld. A big gang war started, people were killed, cops were told to shoot anyone in costume on sight, and Stephanie was killed by Black Mask.

In the aftermath of everything, Batman was a wanted man.

Oh. I've kept up with everything around War Games. I just don't know where Gordon is at the moment.

So...he was mad because Batman left the city? And they're good now right? Gordon's retired?

These are a big help actually. ^___^ Not for anything in particular, but it's good knowing these things. It'd be impossible to catch up on trades from that far back.

Last I checked, they were best friends. At the very end of No Man's Land Volume 5, after Joker killed Sarah, Batman holds Gordon. And lets him cry on his shoulder.

They're currently still best friends, I think. Yes, Gordon is retired, and he's left town. I'm not sure where he is now, either.
