Fannish Items of Interest
10 Collecting Fads Worth Next To Nothing Now. I remember POGs, even if I never bought one. I used to buy X-Men trading cards around 1989 or 1990—there’s probably still a three ring binder filled with the things around here somewhere.
The first official trailer for The Cabin In The Woods.
whedonesque discusses it here.
After more than 20 years, Universal is closing their Jaws attraction.
Tom Hardy happily breaks a crew member (as a joke) while in character as Bane.
A brief history of X-Force.
From Mental Floss: 11 Functional Homemade TARDISes
Best wishes to both Russell T. Davies and his partner, as they deals with the latter’s cancer diagnosis.
Oh, and the link I gave for using the old layout of Youtube? They’ve apparently done something to make it stop working, so now you should use this one while you can.
If you’re having difficulty cross-posting between LJ and Twitter or Dreamwidth, that’s because (according to the latest
status update) LJ has temporarily disabled the function until the DDOS attack ends. I’m also hoping we will regain syndicated feed updates at that point in time. Until then, I’m reading them (transferred all of them on a day when LJ was doing well) on Dreamwidth.
Once I hear back from my beta reader, the Yuletide story can go up. I just now decided the title I originally had for the story doesn’t work all that well, and have altered it to one that does.

The Beanie Baby and Cabbage Patch Kid things were...bizarre consumer frenzy gold rushes where you could buy one, wait a week and double or triple your money....but as I understand it that's not how the market normally works anyway.

That was the point when Mom turned to me (at the age of 2) and said the only thing she would ever get in line for like those people were was food for her children. She wasn't risking her neck for a toy. I understood.
I don't know if things ever got that bad for Beanie Babies, since I was never interested.

I was a little out of the age range for both crazes and always thought the CPK were kind of ugly....(though I did get a black panther and 'husky-wolf' beanie baby for Sentinel fandom---character canon spirit animals....and yeah. The toy that sold for five dollars was being put up on Ebay for five hundred as soon as it went out of production. Artificial limits like that and it being the hot thing everyone wants....that can cause a craze.)
