Firefox Questions
According to CBS, we have a tornado watch until 4 PM. Last night, we had thunderstorms, which included wind that (according to the local news a few minutes ago) went as fast as 68 mph.
There’s a certain torrent site I’m on (not naming it, since I don’t want to lock this) where you need Firefox to see some of the pages. I use IE 7, and everything’s been fine with that. Other than being able to see those pages, is Firefox worth it? And if I don’t like it for some reason, would it be relatively easy to switch back to IE? Dad mentioned you get a lot of extra junk on the page with Firefox, and that’s all he knows--would you be able to get rid of it, so the taskbar looks like IE would?
Meaning buttons relatively the same, and able to customize the command bar to get rid of everything I don’t need. I know that IE can do it, but I know nothing about Firefox. Except for the fact they have tabs.
ETA: Thank you, everyone! I've just installed it, and so far things seem to be going fine with it. I'm primarily using IE, with Firefox only when I really need it.

I don't know what your dad means by "extra junk." The only extra stuff I have with my Firefox are add-ons I chose myself.
It's extremely customisable and I never have problems with it at all. And you can have both it and IE on the same computer and switch between them no problem. We have both on our PC because for a long time Netflix streaming video only worked in IE (not true any more I don't think).

And thank you. I had originally thought that having Firefox meant you couldn't use the other browser ever again--or that they wouldn't be compatible.

There's no browser that I'm aware of that puts a lock down on your computer so you can never use another. I've got like three on my Mac (Firefox, Safari, Opera) and two on my PC.
Firefox is very awesome. I love all the add-ons. I don't know what i would do without my LJ add-on, my photobucket add-on, my UK English dictionary add-on, and my leechblocker add-on.

My IE7 has more toolbars than my Firefox does.

I don't know about the extra junk thing -- I actually got a LOT less of that than when I was still using IE. At any rate, any excess junk -- do you mean unnecessary bookmarks, or something? -- is easy to delete on Firefox, and I've found the taskbar easily customizable.
If you find that you'd rather use IE, you can always switch. While I use Firefox all the time, I never deleted IE, mainly for the sites that only work with it.

It runs from a USB drive and leaves no changes on your computer. So, it is a nice way to test it out.

And I have no idea what your dad was talking about.

I'm an advocate of Firefox rights! I can recommend useful add-ons if you want to.
But, seriously, like everyone else said. Install it and try it. Use it whenever you want, and keep IE around.
