Fanfic Question Meme
Taken from many people, here’s a fanfic focused meme.
2: What scene did you first put down?
3: What’s your favorite line of narration?
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
5: What part was hardest to write?
6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?
7: Where did the title come from?
8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?
11: What do you like best about this fic?
12: What do you like least about this fic?
13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?
14: Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic?
15: What did you learn from writing this fic?
My fanfic (from Yuletides past, mainly) can be found here at Ao3. Or here at Teaspoon, where I last added anything from Doctor Who seven years ago.
Choose a fic and 1 (or more) question(s) from the list below:

Or you can peer into the depths of a tag called ‘fanfic I’ve written.’ There’s one Firefly fanfic down there somewhere, and quite a few drabbles for that and Buffy from back when I was starting to dabble in fanfic for the first time.

(And I haven't used a Wednesday icon in so long.)

I do like the movies (the TV show more, but anything Addamses is good... and I will definitely read the story!)

I had to check to confirm it, but yes--that story also marked the year I had the most number of comments ever to a Yuletide story.
I vaguely recalled a reboot, and just checked. It was remade in 1998 as a series called The New Addams Family, and ended up on ABC Family/Fox Family for a brief time. I never watched that one.

Let's see how many of these I can answer, lol! (The first time I read it, I though you wanted answers to all questions. Now I see it's one or more, but let's go for it.)
1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?
It's a divergence AU. It starts off at the critical divergence point and, for the first few chapters, runs pretty parallel. It involves two OUAT characters taking a non-canonical road trip and meanwhile, canon keeps going pretty much as it did, with the parts played by those two characters easily going to the ones who stayed behind. I kept putting in little background references for readers to recognize and think, "Oh. Okay, we're up that that point now."
It's a linear progression, until the moment when things take a hard left in a very different direction.
2: What scene did you first put down?
The opener. I've never really been one for writing scenes out of order. So, the canon divergence point when the two characters I mentioned in the last question are grieving the death of a third character. In canon, at this point, the two parted ways. One returned to be comforted by her family. One stayed where he was and was recaptured by his current worst enemy. In my fic, the first one convinces the other to come with her and they leave town.
3: What’s your favorite line of narration?
Hmmm... It's a 29-chapter story, but I think my favorite non-dialogue line/passage comes in the eleventh chapter:
Gold blinked. Then he sat up a bit straighter. He was wearing one of the knitted pullover sweaters that Pete had given him, but his hands moved automatically to his chest to adjust his non-existent lapels and tie.
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
"It's more than Zelena did and everyone's practically rushing to roll out the welcome wagon for her. I mean, seriously, Gold gave us a fighting chance to defeat Zelena while he was in her power. What else does he have to do before people start to realize that maybe he's on our side—die? Oh. Wait," Emma continued bitterly, as David winced. "I guess that's not enough either. You know, on second thought, maybe we don't need to give him a second chance. Maybe we need to get one. From him."
5: What part was hardest to write?
The last few lines. I wanted a happy ending, but more than that, a hopeful one that felt earned and believable and just sappy enough...
6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?
The fact that the plot bunny invaded my brain and wouldn't move out for five months until the fic was finished? My first OUAT multipart. And while I've written plenty of divergence AUs before, this is the first one that didn't immediately jump off in a different direction and ignore the canon path.
7: Where did the title come from?
One OUAT episode is called "New York City Serenade". Passamaquoddy is the setting of the original Pete's Dragon. I pulled up a list of types of musical compositions from Wikipedia and tried pairing each one with Passamaquoddy. "Impromptu" sounded best.
8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?
Not unless you consider my watching canon to be a real event, lol. Oh, and I suppose rereading the Oz books as an adult and being a bit more critical of some of the themes and attitudes helped.
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
Not really. I had a pretty good idea of what was going on inside the head of character B when I was writing from A's perspective, but there wasn't a way to work it in without going too far off-course. Might write it sometime, though.
Continued!
All romantic pairings are canonical. Rumbelle. Snowing. Outlaw Queen. Hints of future Captain Swan. But there is a gen friendship going on between Emma and Gold which felt right because, when you get down to it, they've both got things in their pasts that made them feel weak, powerless, and alone. They happened to encounter each other when their usual walls were down and they connected. But it's not a romance.
11: What do you like best about this fic?
Bringing Gold closer into the community and averting certain canon events.
12: What do you like least about this fic?
More of a regret, but... I find Hook and Robin difficult characters to write. Mostly, I left them out and it wasn't a conscious choice. Just... when the time came for something to be said or done, they usually weren't the ones doing it.
13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?
I'm not really sure. I listen to a mix of showtunes, new country, folk, and whatever genre Stan Rogers falls into. A line here, a line there helped, but I don't think there was any one play or performer that clicked.
14: Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic?
Not really. I mean, did I want to call out to a relatively obscure Disney movie that's been a sentimental favorite? Sure. Did I want to show that Gold wasn't irredeemable and that he and Emma had a lot in common? Absolutely. Is any of this actually news? Probably not.
15: What did you learn from writing this fic?
That if I can write almost 124,000 words in five months... the novel I'm periodically writing should be happening a lot quicker!
