The Only Comic Store In the City...
Dec. 10th, 2004 11:44 amFor the first time in 8 years, I went to the local comic store. I originally stopped going because they were always smoking, and it was just a terrible place. I didn't have any choice but to go back, since I was looking for a particular comic.
My mom went with me, since she'd never been there before. It was worse than it was 8 years ago.
This was the conversation once my mom and I got there, but before we went in:
Mom: So, what was it like there before?
Me: Dank.
Mom: What?! Anything else?
Me: Dingy. Dark. Anything else that starts with "d" probably applies.
*We go inside*
Mom: *whispering*Like this?
Me: This is worse than 8 years ago.
Mom: Oh...
It was dark, and you could barely see a thing. I think the walls had mildew on them. It stank of cigarette smoke, and there was almost no room to walk. There was a katana in a display case, but it could barely be seen---that area had no light at all.
There were ashtrays on top of boxes of comics. Some trade paperbacks I had seen there 8 years ago--and they were dirty like they had been there that long.
I found what I needed (Still haven't found Birds of Prey #8) and left quickly.
