This is not in order of importance, but in order of how recently I heard of it.

1. Sir Roger Moore has passed away at the age of 89, following a “short but brave battle with cancer.” He will be best known for his role as James Bond, over the course of seven films. Sherlock Holmes fans may also remember that he was Holmes in the film Sherlock Holmes In New York (1976).

2. My condolences must also go out to Zack Snyder, his wife, and the rest of his family in the wake of a family tragedy. Snyder will be stepping down as the director of Justice League as he mourns the loss of his daughter, and requested that Joss Whedon direct additional material for him.

3. And lastly, but certainly not least: as the numbers confirmed to be both dead and injured continue to rise, my thoughts are with the families affected by the suicide bombing at Manchester yesterday. It just didn’t feel right to post condolences and not mention this one as well. Here’s James Corden’s message to Manchester.

Macmillan will sell e-books to libraries in pilot program at $25 per title

How Was SFSketchFest/Best of RiffTrax? I managed to go to the Manos screening. Due to an awful movie (one of the Wayans brothers spoofing the Paranormal Activity franchise—I walked in during what seemed to be the guy being jealous as he watched someone loudly having sex with a ghost; not being interested in watching this moment with Dad, we turned and left, opting to stay in the hall until it finished) running too long, Rifftrax wouldn’t have had time for the trivia/joke cards at the start. So the manager let everyone vote—we decided even if it went overly long, we wanted it. Things were fine, until midway through one of the shorts—the power in the whole theater went out. 5-10 minutes later, it came back, and we started where we left off. Someone that had been there for the previous showing (and its interruption by tornado and power outage) said it had happened at that same point, too. The manager (who also personally went in and cleaned up after the previous viewing of that movie) came in and apologized.

Unfortunately, the heat didn’t come back on. Instead, about 20 minutes before the end, the air conditioning was going full blast—so I had my coat on. Got out around 9:45 PM, and made it home shortly before the sleet (which the Weather Channel has dubbed Winter Storm Khan—feel free to insert your own Kirk scream here) started. Outside of all of that, I have to say it was great.

One of the workers has just been hauling everything daily, even as the others are rotated in and out in shifts...as of today, between pulling things out, he’s just staggering through the rain, looking done in.
