Stan Kirsch died on January 11th at the age of 51. May he rest in peace. To me, he will forever be Richie Ryan, from Highlander: The Series. I did catch his one episode of Friends, but never saw him anywhere else.

My first episode of Highlander was Archangel (I have great timing*!)--and through that show and incident, I discovered fanfic. I stumbled across a Clan Denial site because of that episode, and there was so much fix-it fanfic around. Almost always loved Kirsch in the show, even if I didn’t always like the character of Richie.

*I seriously came into this show backwards and with the wrong expectations. Sci-Fi Buzz aired a thing back in the day about how Richie Ryan was dead, and there was a demon involved. Watched Archangel, bought Counterfeit Parts 1 and 2 on VHS, watched Highlander II: The Quickening, and then caught the marathons on USA Network.

Thought Horton was really a demon all along. Same with Richie, realized it was not so. Come for Ahriman, stay for the wild ride of past seasons and future movies.

(Have a Joe and Methos icon, since I don't have one of Richie.)

I am truly beyond thrilled with all that I received for [community profile] fandom_stocking this year.

To sum up, I received:

-Two beautiful banners/book covers from [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook, for the Yuletide story I wrote for her, as well as two icons (and two others to share because they’re fantastic) for Dracula (1968). I’ll see if I can put the second banner in without wrecking anything on Ao3 once I figure out the coding and upload it elsewhere. I'm not sure about creating a third chapter over there just to show them off, but it's an option.

-17 Supergirl icons from [personal profile] medie, and 2 Supergirl related icons from [personal profile] tarlanx.
-3 Dark Shadows icons from [personal profile] liadt.
-A great Methos centered Highlander drabble from [personal profile] misbegotten.
-A book recommendation (which I’ll track down soon) from [personal profile] john_amend_all.
-A massive helping of book recommendations from [personal profile] rebecca_selene. I will be tracking down a large amount of them, if not all of them, in all likelihood.
-Links to Halloween focused stuff from [personal profile] valarltd
-Happy New Year from [profile] falcon_hours, [personal profile] bererjs and [personal profile] twinsarein.

I’m uploading as many icons as I can to Dreamwidth, and saving others so I can switch them out at another date if I want. To all that are on my circle/friends list and provided something, thank you again.

I’ll look through the collection further on Ao3 in a little while.
calliopes_pen: (amberleewriter I was Death)
If anyone on my friends list is interested, Syfy will be showing various episodes from season 5 of Highlander, beginning at 7 AM CST, and ending around 2 PM. First up: Revelation 6:8.
calliopes_pen: (amberleewriter had to be there Methos)
For those that may be interested, Syfy is having a marathon of Highlander: The Series today, from 7 AM CST, to 6 PM CST. And then 8 AM CST Sunday morning, until early Monday morning at 3 AM, they are having a Buffy marathon.

In other news, yesterday I spotted the entirety of the first season of Orphan Black on Comcast On Demand. Watched all of it, enjoyed it--I'll be watching when season 2 starts. All I managed to catch when it first aired was the first episode, and part of the second, I think.

On a more serious note, Mom seems to have done well with the chemo—which was Monday through Wednesday morning. The next round is in two weeks.

Since that one would be Egon, Max Headroom, Jem, Connor Macleod, Teen Wolf, someone from Tron, Carmen Sandiego, KITT, and a few others I cannot identify. (Hey, someone wrote this for me one year, I’d love to see either of these, too.) So I may just end up nominating both, if I’m able and don’t have any other prompts. Topless Robot’s latest contest: Describe what you would consider Nerd Heaven or Nerd Hell. For Heaven, I came up with this scenario: Ghostbusters 3 gets made using the script where they all went to Hell (which was in Development Hell for a long time), all actors return, it doesn't implode horrifically, Ivan Reitman produces, and Christopher Nolan gives his input to keep things in check. So it can be as dark and scary as need be, with some good comedy that doesn’t veer into Adam Sandler territory by mistake. Liam Neeson as the villain. That, or Neil Gaiman taking over Doctor Who after Moffat.

Now, a meme—I’m just spreading it along. I’m not into music and wouldn’t know of anything for a response.

And answering this one again:

Tell me you want to play and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. Then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

Answering these questions for the following fandoms: The Librarian, Ghostbusters, Dark Shadows, Sherlock, Torchwood, and Highlander. Cut due to length. )

Bob Anderson has passed away, at the age of 89. May he rest in peace. He was the Swordmaster for the Lord of the Rings—and the upcoming The Hobbit—The Princess Bride, The Three Musketeers (1993), and First Knight. He was also the Swordsmaster for the first Highlander movie, and twenty-eight episodes of Highlander: The Series. He worked as the stunt double for Darth Vader in Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, and was a fighting guard in the Doctor Who serial The Enemy of the World.

I’ve watched Sherlock: A Scandal In Belgravia, by the way—without spoiling anything (although, there may eventually be spoilers in the comments if there are any, so be aware of that) for those that haven’t seen it, I loved it. New Avengers poster.

Chris Claremont talks about the future—for him and for comics.

In the last few days, I have managed to watch: Girlfriend From Hell, Innocent Blood, Biggles: Adventures In Time, and Return of the Living Dead--and something from 1992 called Ghostwatch. With that first one, I vaguely liked it—I had been wanting to watch it since I was 7 or 8. Aside from the one moment seared into my brain where people teleport into a topless bar, complete with a stripper that bears a striking likeness to one Jackie Tyler. Which just makes this icon all the more appropriate, I have to say. (And slightly awkward, as Mom passed through at that moment, and asked if the topless lady was her--IMDB says no.)

I loved Innocent Blood, and have now put it on the list of possible things to request in Yuletide next time around. I already have a Fright Night prompt.

Beginning at 1:45 PM, Encore will show all three Poltergeist movies. I plan on watching, having never seen the second or third, and only the first chopped to bits on AMC in October.

Oh, and a question regarding Dreamwidth. I imported over the contents of my LJ several months back. If I tried to do so again, would it make duplicates of what’s already there, or would it simply pick up with the last new thing?
