Bad Luck On Friday the 13th
Jun. 14th, 2008 02:59 pmHow was my Friday the 13th?
Pretty good until the thunderstorms hit, and the garage flooded. The water started coming in, and went through pretty much the entire garage. When it stopped around 9 PM, Dad got a broom and started sweeping it back out--which actually worked, eventually. We have quite a few boxes of things that were ruined, though.
However, the spot where the cat has her own little bed, and a towel for privacy when she goes to the litter box (yes, she’s spoiled) along with the tiny piece of carpet placed under her food bowl? All that was untouched. She couldn’t sleep where she usually does last night, so she slept on the top shelf of something--and Dad gave her another, taller box, just in case there was more rain and she had to move to even higher ground.
During the thunderstorm, I kept hearing tapping sounds--turns out that there was a leak in the attic, right over the edge of the pull-down stairs. Dad put up a bowl to catch it, and checked again this morning. It wasn’t a leak—it was the fact that the wind was going over 70 mph, and blowing the rain sideways, that it somehow managed to go between the wood. I don’t know how, and there isn’t a leak there.
There is a leak in the roof in the garage, though, right at the point where the house and garage connect. Dad’s working on fixing that soon. Most of the water has gone down in the front yard, and Dad just mentioned that a few tree branches were torn off in the front yard.
This morning, he also went to check the other house--the one where the water main exploded? It’s fine other than the messed up front yard, and the only problem he could see was that the power was out for that entire block.
And now, a break from the mayhem and stress, with a meme type thing, which is being hosted by
medie. Here are the directions:
This is, er, not a love meme. Not in the traditional livejournal sense of the word. Basically it's a Pep Talk Meme for writers/icon makers/vidders, whoever. You can put your username here or you can out someone else's username here and people drop little peptalks about your work in comments. For those of us who can do it, but just need a little pick-me-up now and then.
Here’s the post for the meme. And here is my comment.
