Heh. This might be one of the only icons I have involving heat or fire, but it works.
The snow storm (including half an inch of ice, which is better than last year, at least) is due to hit in this area around 4-6 AM tomorrow morning. We have food, freakish amounts (Dad also keeps filling old jugs that formerly held tea with tap water--whatever works) of bottled water, that heater that was installed, clothing, and numerous other supplies. Dad ran out and went to Captain D's to stock up on fish, rice, and other things. We made nuts and bolts, as well as those little oyster crackers with Ranch flavored powder on them.
We also have raw carrots and potatoes, as well as chicken--so as long as the power doesn't go out, we can fill the crock pot on Saturday. If it does, we can eat the potatoes raw--since that's how I love them.
I joked that we could always cook soup over the heater, and Dad finally mentioned that he had bought a small portable stove and put it in the garage--the kind you take camping, apparently--so if the power goes out, we can still cook. He also still has at least five or six of those little heater things we used during the ice storm, just in case the heater has any problems. So we have a back-up plan.
We'll also be keeping an eye on Nellie. Months ago, lightning struck her house and shorted out a lot of her appliances and destroyed her heater. She hired a guy to get her a new one installed. Months went by, he never showed, so she's without any heat. She has tiny ones, but they couldn't possibly heat the entire house.
In the middle of all this, I suddenly got a great idea for my
help_haiti story, and I'll work on it more after this is over. It's expected to stay in the area with mostly snow from 4-6 AM tomorrow morning, until Saturday afternoon or so, I think.
ETA: Forgot to mention that in the case of an internet outage, but not a power outage? I'm downloading a few Rifftrax episodes to get me by.
